POSITION TITLE: Teacher - Middle School Mathematics
DATE: February 2018
CLASSIFICATION: Professional Staff
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
LOCATION: High School/Middle School
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
POSITION GOAL:
Help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible men and women. Individual should be able to teach Pre-Algebra, Algebra, and/or Geometry courses to 7th and/or 8th grade students.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students.
2. Assign and grade class work and homework; prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate students' progress.
3. Prepare for assigned classes, and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisors; prepare objectives and outlines for courses of study, following curriculum guidelines or requirements of states and schools.
4. Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
5. Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
6. Observe and evaluate students' performance, behavior, and social development.
7. Enforce all administration policies and rules governing students.
8. Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
9. Prepare students for later grades by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and to persevere with challenging tasks.
10. Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials, in order to prevent injuries and damage.
11. Meet with parents or guardians, other teachers, counselors, and administrators: to discuss specific children's progress, to determine resource needs and priorities for the child(ren), and to resolve students’ behavioral and academic problems.
12. Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence.
13. Collaborate with other teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of secondary school programs.
14. Select, store, order, issue, and inventory classroom equipment, materials, and supplies.
15. Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers, or other experiential activities, and guide students in learning from those activities.
16. Administer standardized ability and achievement tests, and interpret results to determine students' strengths and areas of need.
17. Attend staff meetings, and serve on committees as required.
18. Perform administrative duties such as assisting in school libraries, hall and cafeteria monitoring, and bus loading and unloading.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualification requirements listed below represent minimum levels of educational achievement, training, skill and/or ability necessary.
1. Bachelor’s Degree.
2. Pennsylvania Secondary Teaching Certification in subject area of assignment.
3. Effective interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents.
4. Ability to express self clearly and concisely in oral and written communications; and to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups.
5. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; to plan and implement lessons based on curriculum objectives and the needs and abilities of students.
6. Well organized with good time management skills.
7. Computer literate and competent with word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
8. Submission of PA School Personnel Health form.
9. Current Act 34, Act 151 and Act 114 clearances.
10. The person, while performing in this position, will be required to:
a. Use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, and to talk and hear;
b. Sit, stand, walk, and occasionally be required to stoop, kneel and crouch;
c. Have specific vision abilities, to include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus;
d. Have the ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; and
e. Possess effective judgment; communication, mathematical, planning and human relations skills; and is required to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
192 days, 7 hours 30 minutes per day.
Salary and benefits according to the negotiated agreement between the Board of School Directors and the Roberts Education Association.
