The job of Teaching and Learning Specialist is done for the purpose/s of developing and coordinating innovative curriculum, instruction, coaching, and professional development initiatives.

Essential Functions:
- Attends meetings and seminars (e.g. (professional development sessions; conferences; local, county, state and national job-related meetings), etc.) for the purpose of staying current with curriculum, instruction and professional development initiatives.
- Collaborate with internal and external staff for the purpose of promoting the vision of professional learning and innovation within the DCIU and throughout Delaware County.
- Designs and develops standards-based curricula, incorporating inclusive practices in collaboration with district stakeholders to enhance student learning and meet the needs of all students.
- Facilitate or present at meetings, conferences, and other organizational events for the purpose of providing relevant information to teachers and administrators that may include district, county, regional or state level stakeholders.
- Independently manage complex and overlapping projects that are detail oriented and time-bound, including budgeting and staff for the purpose of providing ongoing oversight to specific initiatives.
- Initiate and supervise the development and implementation of innovation, teaching and learning initiatives for the purpose of supporting organizational goals.
- Maintains current knowledge of instructional resources, trends, and issues for the purpose of assessing needs and identifying solutions.
- Manages a variety of training programs for the purpose of ensuring training objectives are achieved in the most efficient and timely manner.
- Originate and execute grants, partnerships and entrepreneurial activities (e.g. grants to county educators, etc.) for the purpose of maximizing additional revenue sources for the DCIU and Delaware County schools.
- Participates in developing and monitoring educational strategies guidelines and standards (e.g. content, relevance, effectiveness, etc.) for the purpose of meeting the needs of DCIU customers.
- Represents the DCIU in working with external parties (e.g. stakeholders, partnerships, grantors, etc.) for the purpose of developing partnerships to enhance entrepreneurial endeavors, promoting positive relations, and enhancing related educational services.
- Researches emerging, new and/or revised curriculum, instruction, assessment integration processes, strategies and materials for the purpose of making recommendations and assisting with design and implementation in order to meet DCIU customers’ needs.
- Serves as a liaison and resource, identifying training needs and/or coordinating professional development services (e.g. literacy, humanities, whole child, Personalized, Blended/Hybrid and/or Personalized Learning, as well as Technology Integration, etc.) for the purpose of supporting teaching, learning and innovation and CIPL department goals and initiatives.
- Performs other duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Education Required: Master’s Degree in a job-related area of Curriculum, Instruction, Coaching, and Professional Development.
- Certification Required: PA Teaching Certificate in the areas of literacy, mathematics, science, or social studies.
- Supervisor/Principal certification highly preferred.
- Experience Required: At least 4 years of teaching experience in specific areas of Curriculum, Instruction, and Professional Development or requisite experience required; evidence of proven experiences in leading curriculum and instruction initiatives and the ability to present content and instructional techniques to colleagues.
- Experience in curriculum development and/or instructional coaching highly preferred.
