Purpose
The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) seeks a dynamic project manager initially focusing on projects run in collaboration with Army Futures Command. The position will be part of a growing office focused on delivering University research and development to the Army and DoD. The project manager will be responsible for working directly with faculty, graduate students, researchers and the Army to provide technical project management support and coordination for ongoing research and development projects in an agile and dynamic environment. This position will be responsible for designing, developing and supporting processes, communications, and reporting for DoD funded projects across campus.
Responsibilities
-
In support of Defense Research Advancement (DRA) and of individual faculty and research PIs, manage project tasks including technical task planning and scope definitions, risk identification, tracking and reporting, budget planning and task proposals, financial tracking and reporting, and collaboration with other group members and support staff to meet program objectives.

Present status and work directly with internal and external stakeholders.

Coordinate internal and external meetings, notes and action items.

Assist with special projects and any other tasks that require independent decision making and a broad organizational perspective performing related duties as requested.
Required Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalent experience.
-
At least one year of experience with project or program management in a R&D/engineering environment, DoD, or Army environment.
-
Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to multitask.
-
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
-
Demonstrated ability to communicate administrative information to technical and nontechnical personnel at various levels in the organization.
-
Strong listening skills and a focus on customer advocacy.
-
Extensive experience with MS Office products.
-
Ability to travel up to 10% to work with project stakeholders.
Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Degree in project management, robotics, engineering, physical sciences, or related discipline.
-
Familiarity with Army or DoD culture through service in the US military, employment by the US Army, or close work with the US Army through employment with a contractor.
-
Familiarity with academic culture.
-
Current Project Management Professional (PMP) certification and/or experience with Agile Project Management.
-
Experience with controlled unclassified information (CUI) and export control compliance.
-
Experience with one or more of the following: robotics engineering, software design/programming such as ROS, systems engineering, networking, and or direct experience transitioning systems along technology maturation pipeline for the Army and DoD.
-
Experience summarizing and/or presenting results and progress using Microsoft PowerPoint or Word to executive leadership.

Experience using SharePoint as a collaborative work environment.
-
Proven ability to work with minimal direction, formulate research plans, solve tough problems, and take initiative.
Salary
$90,000+ depending on qualifications

M-F, flexible between hours of 7:30am-5:30pm

Office location at UT main campus with occasional time at Pickle Research Campus (PRC)

Retirement Plan Eligibility:
The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
