Position Summary
Columbia University’s Department of Pathology and Cell Biology invites applications for a Technician B. This individual would be responsible for testing novel drugs in cell culture models of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and would aid in the development new in vitro drug screening platforms as part of the newly-created Project ALS Therapeutics Core at Columbia.
Responsibilities
Maintaining mouse and human stem cell lines (25%)
Testing research compounds in cell culture models of ALS (25%)
Molecular cloning (25%)
PCR analysis of gene-edited cells (25%)
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, physics, or related science.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with in vitro gene editing techniques, such as CRISPR.
Experience with molecular cloning software such as SnapGene.
Experience with statistical software such as Prism, SPSS, R, etc.
Strong communication and organizational skills.
Ability to learn and adapt to new techniques.
Other Requirements
Experience with basic tissue culture techniques (sterile / aseptic technique).
Experience with basic cloning techniques in E. Coli.
Experience with basic PCR techniques.
Experience with basic epifluorescent microscopy.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
