Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities:
The Test Engineer will support both System and Sub-System level test campaigns as associated with Aireon Space Based ADS-B services. Reporting to the Manager, Test Engineering, this position will be responsible for developing test plans and executing test cases and procedures associated with formal test campaigns including witnessing and running Factory Acceptance Test (FAT)/Site Acceptance Test (SAT) test cases as well as conducting test reviews with the relevant Aireon and vendor/customer stakeholders.

What You'll Do
  • Provide a mapping for system level requirements against the appropriate system verification method (i.e., Inspection, Demonstration, Test and Analysis)
  • Develop and execute software and hardware level test plans and cases utilizing both manual and automated test scripts
  • Perform functional test cases for system integration, system loading and regression test scenarios and user acceptance testing when applicable
  • Perform non-functional test cases for performance, failover, longevity and stress test scenarios
  • Investigate test failures, document bugs, problem reports, and tickets for final resolution
  • Implement key performance indicators that show test coverage, test progress and other test-related metrics
  • Conduct and witness formal testing activities at Aireon and vendor sites
  • Work with cross functional teams (systems engineering, modeling and analysis, program management, product development, etc.) to complete test campaigns and brief results to Aireon Management
  • Produce test plans, procedures, artifacts and reports, and documents for Configuration Management (CM) controlled repositories (i.e., SharePoint)
  • Attend and present work products at Aireon Review Board meetings (Technical Review Board, Configuration Review Board, etc.)
Experience & Education Requirements / EEO:
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline, i.e., Electrical Engineering/Computer Science/Math
  • Solid understanding of systems engineering processes and phases (V model)
  • 1+ year experience as a test engineer on communications/network/aviation systems
  • 1+ year experience with shell scripting, PowerShell, SQL, Python or Go
  • 1+ year experience with Linux OS (Red Hat/ Centos)
  • 1+ year experience with Atlassian Tools (JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket, etc.)
  • 1+ year experience with test management tools such as JIRA T4J
Desired Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in technical discipline, i.e., Electrical Engineering/Computer Science/Math
  • 1+ year experience utilizing MATLAB for system test and analysis

  • Take on assigned engineering tasks and update existing documentation / presentation to reflect the as-deployed system architecture

  • Support the planning, coordination, communication, and execution of test events for systems builds and release processes
  • Conduct test readiness & exit reviews via Microsoft suite for scheduled test events
  • Take on new tasking with minimal management oversight
At 12 months, we'll expect you to...
  • Execute engineering dry runs and lead Verification / Validation activities with subsystem vendors
  • Represent Aireon as an SME and test witness to ensure quality control across external test events
  • Use scripting languages such as Python, Linux, and MATLAB to automate tasks, analyze test results, and perform root cause analyses
  • Develop and maintain technical documents, test reports, and requirements traceability for test events, as necessary
About the Team

The Aireon Implementation and Test Engineering team is a small team working in a hybrid office environment that collaborates closely across System Integration, Test, and Release activities. The team works closely with other teams and groups within Aireon to include Systems Engineering, Network Engineering, and Sales/Marketing and Operational groups. Each member of the Implementation and Test Engineering team draws upon the strengths and skills across the group in both their individual as well as larger project roles. Information sharing is encouraged as well as updating and maintaining shared document repositories in SharePoint and Confluence. The team currently meets on both a weekly and bi-weekly basis via MS Teams and video calls, with office or lab sessions scheduled as required. Local team members to the Aireon HQ location (McLean, VA) are also available for on-site meetings and activities associated with the Aireon Systems Engineering group.
