GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Texas Rising Star (TRS) Mentor is responsible for providing mentoring and training for current TRS providers and for those interested in becoming a TRS provider; modeling and coaching in-classroom implementation of quality child development research-based practices; and submitting documentation/reports concerning mentoring and/or training functions.

The TRS Mentor works under the supervision of the Chief Executive Officer and the Chief Operating Officer.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, child psychology, educational psychology, elementary education, or family consumer science. OR

· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with at least 18 credit hours in early childhood education, child development, special education, child psychology, educational psychology, elementary education, or family consumer science with at least 12 credit hours in child development. OR

· Associate degree in early childhood education, child development, special education, child psychology, educational psychology, elementary education, or family consumer science and two years of suitable experience in early childhood education.

· Have current criminal background check before entering any child care facility.

EXAMPLES OF WORK TO BE PERFORMED

· Provide technical assistance and coaching support to assist child care and early learning programs in attaining, maintaining, and improving Texas Rising Star certification status.

· Regularly consult with child care programs to develop and monitor Continuous Quality Improvement Plans (CQIPs).

· Model and coach in-classroom implementation of quality child development research-based practices.

· Provide constructive feedback, deliver targeted training, and refer programs to other helpful resources and training.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

· Understanding of TRS Certification Guidelines and the minimum standards of Texas child care licensing.

· Bilingual (English and Spanish speaker).

· Ability to relate to individuals from culturally diverse backgrounds.

· Proficient in computer software application and operation.

· Detail oriented with strong oral and written communication skills.

· Basic administrative skills, including recordkeeping and use of a computer for data management and professional communication.

· Ability to understand and interpret pertinent policies and procedures clearly and accurately.

· Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with individuals of various backgrounds and interests.

· Ability to collect, organize, analyze, and interpret data.

· Ability to review documents with attention to accuracy and detail.

· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

· Ability to work in a team.

REQUIRED CONTINUING EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

TRS Mentors are required to complete the Texas Rising Star Certification course training components and must pursue the Texas Workforce Commission’s required coaching microcredential, which will result in the awarding of badges based on the successful demonstration of individual coaching competencies. Mentor will participate in monthly professional learning communities to assist in understanding the coaching competencies required of this position.

TRS Mentors must obtain a minimum of 36 hours of professional development annually.

Professional development is to be on applicable topics that will assist the TRS Mentor to support early learning programs. Training topics may include but are not limited to child care business management, developmentally appropriate activities and curriculum, and observation and assessment.

The TRS Mentor is required to register in the Texas Early Childhood Professional Development System.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED

· Position requires travel within the Permian Basin 17-county workforce area. An appropriate Texas driver’s license or available means of transportation is required, and liability insurance as required by law for personal vehicles. A motor vehicle records check may be conducted.

· Position requires occasional out of region travel for activities and/or meetings.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
