Marquette’s Title IX and Equity Investigator is responsible for the day-to-day management and support of the University’s civil rights compliance, including with Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, Section 504, and University policies and procedures regarding non-discrimination, unlawful harassment, and sexual misconduct for students and in partnership with Human Resources for Faculty and Staff. The Title IX and Equity Investigator reports to the Title IX Coordinator within the Office of the Provost and plays a key role in supporting the University’s commitment to an open, diverse, and inclusive learning, living, and working environment.

Duties and Responsibilities
1. Assist the Title IX Coordinator with supporting and monitoring compliance with the University’s policies and protocols developed to ensure civil rights compliance.
2. Coordinate with the Title IX Coordinator and Human Resources (for faculty and staff) to ensure compliance with all Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights Guidelines as well as other local, state, and national obligations (e.g., VAWA SaVE Act, Clery Act).
3. As assigned by the Title IX Coordinator, investigate reports of civil rights violations from intake to conclusion. (and in partnership with Human Resources for faculty and staff).
4. Coordinate with Marquette University Police Department, Student Conduct, and other relevant partners on investigations and hearings to assure compliance with timelines. Help frame an efficient and effective University response to each complaint.
5. Assist the Title IX Coordinator in ensuring each alleged civil rights violation is thoroughly documented and tracked.
6. Develop and as warranted, deliver educational programming for undergraduate, graduate, and professional students.
7. Assist, as requested, with the development and delivery of education and training for Marquette faculty and staff. As appropriate, assist with the development and/or delivery of additional training for other relevant constituencies.
8. Develop a webpage/web content for university students and employees that houses relevant bias and Title IX including but not limited to: policies, procedures, accountabilities, links to filing complaints, etc.
9. Periodically assess the campus community for indications of information or training or communication gaps and coordinate an action plan to remedy any gaps indicated.
10. Maintain currency of new guidance, regulations, and laws regarding schools’ responsibilities for reporting, responding to, and preventing violations of civil rights laws.
11. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Bachelor’s degree.

One year of work experience in higher education or conducting investigations.

Professional experience working with or investigating alleged civil rights violations.

Demonstrated ability to conduct balanced, objective, and thorough investigations of alleged civil rights violations.

Previous experience with case management responsibilities.

Demonstrated knowledge of current state and federal laws and regulations, institution-specific policies, practices and procedures, identified best practices and trends in the field of education related to civil rights compliance.

Strong organizational, interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Candidates with a law degree will be given preference.

Prior completion of Title IX or civil rights investigations through a nationally recognized organization.

Experience creating and presenting training and educational programs.
