The Safety and Security Team Lead is responsible for coordination of the day to day operations of the department in the assigned location. This position orients, mentors, coaches, and trains Security Officer Caregivers on standard operating procedures and improvements with patient/visitor interactions. Regular huddles to debrief patient/visitor interactions to support future improvements are conducted. This position ensures that daily work is completed to department standards and recommends new or adjustments to existing procedures. The Team Leader makes service and staffing decisions independently and in collaboration with others and is responsible for redirecting the workload when appropriate. Ensures regular Preventative Maintenance (PMs) and ILSM checks are completed by assigned deadlines as well as plans, organizes, and executes drills and inspections. The position assists with the development plans of assigned staff and ensures Security Officers in their scope complete training on or ahead of assigned deadlines. The Team Lead ensures excellent customer service and communicates regularly with Nurse Supervisor(s)/Charge Nurse(s) for situational awareness. Emergent Security Officer schedule changes are addressed by the Team Lead. Ensures Security Officer documentation is complete and detailed. During shift turnover, the Team Lead ensures the oncoming shift has full situational awareness from the departing shift. The Team Lead makes physical keys and badges. This position supports other areas of the department and makes decisions independently or in collaboration with others. Accesses confidential, organizational information.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provides staff education and mentorship on approved department processes and procedures. Debriefs post-incident/event situations with involved Security Officers. Mentors/coaches Security Officers on de-escalation techniques and patient/visitor situational engagement. Documents debriefings and recommendations for future process improvement. Recommends changes to departmental procedures based upon debriefings. Ensures all Security Officer training is completed on or before the defined deadline.
- Makes daily rounds and quality inspections. Ensures Security Officers complete and document rounding. Ensures regular rounding and frequent contact with Nursing Supervisor(s)/Charge Nurse(s) for changes to situational awareness. Reviews security reports and activity logs. Makes recommendations for operational improvement to Enterprise Security leadership. Ensures security reports and activity logs are detailed according to daily events/situations. Compiles security reports and distributes to the Physical Security Operations Manager.
- Makes physical keys and ensures appropriate completion of key documents by Caregivers. Ensures badges are made correctly and promptly. May create badges when needed.
- Ensures that Security Officers on the respective shift complete regular Preventative Maintenance (PMs) on fire extinguishers and exit signs. Ensures ILSM checks and drills are completed on or ahead of schedule.
- Escalates organizationally visible and/or high risk situations to the Physical Security Operations Manager.
- Maintains detailed working knowledge of and collaborates with the Environmental Safety Department to ensure compliance with Life Safety, EOC and Emergency Management Standards for TJC, CARF, EPA and other accrediting bodies. Serves as Physical Security liaison for the Environmental Life Safety Committee.
- Directs planning, organization and conducting of drills and inspections required to comply with Life Safety, EOC, Emergency Management Standards for TJC, CARF, EPA, and other accrediting bodies.
- Communicates effectively with all Caregivers.
- Ensures completion of shift turnover for situational awareness of the oncoming shift by the departing shift.
- Remediates emergent schedule changes from Security Officers. Ensures shifts have appropriate coverage.
- Assists with strategic and departmental planning to enhance operational efficiencies and achieve department goals.
- Participates in workload as needed and other duties as assigned.
Education Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
Major/Area of Concentration:
Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy (OPOTA), Ohio Corrections Officer Training or Military Police Experience preferred
Preferred Education:
- Completion of 36 hour basic fire training, IAHSS Advanced Level Certification (CAHSO), and/or Security System training preferred
Preferred Certifications:
- Certified Healthcare Emergency Professional (CHEP) within 1 year of employment. Certified IAHSS Supervisor Level Certification (CHSS
