We are looking to recruit 2 Trainee Planners to join the TRU East Alliance, one of the most significant rail projects in the North of England and will give the successful candidates a great opportunity to gain significant planning experience and development of planning techniques whilst being part of an established planning team within the Alliance.

This really is an excellent opportunity to develop in the role working across a multiple workstreams within the Alliance including the delivery stages of a multi-disciplinary complex programme of work and the early design of further phases of the project. The positions are based in York or our Cross Green offices in Leeds.

The mission of the TRU East Alliance is to transform the East of Leeds route (Leeds through to York) allowing people to travel faster, more reliably and in greater comfort between the North’s great cities. Providing passengers with more choice, more seats and better facilities on a safer, cleaner, more environmentally friendly railway.


Key accountabilities

Some of the key responsibilities of this role will include:

  • Assisting the Planning and Project Teams in the production of multi-discipline P6 schedules
  • Reporting project planning and controls related information to the business and clients, assisting in the production of reports as required for each contract
  • Ensuring that the planning management software is kept up-to-date and managed in accordance with instruction from the Planning & Project Controls Manager
  • Supporting the development of work schedules for submission to clients, contractors and engineering teams
  • Attending collaborative planning meeting

Skills & experience

To be considered for this role, you must be an excellent communicator with strong people skills and organisational ability; with a background in providing administrative and systems support to a Project team.

You will ideally have experience of working to support a project management team, experience in the railway or engineering industry or a background in planning and logistics.

The successful candidate will also have the following experience/skill set:

  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Experience of producing work for a team of people juggling competing priorities and working to deadlines
  • Proficient in Microsoft office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Flexible/proactive – can do attitude who shows initiative to support others.

Support and training will be given by an experienced Planning Team to enhance your skills and career development. The successful candidates will also be supported with undertaking their APM Project Qualification.
