WORK SCHEDULE: 200 days per year, and 8 hours per day (split shift)
POSITION SUMMARY: Provide assistance in the daily operation of the Transportation Department.
QUALIFICATIONS: To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each primary duty satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below represent minimum levels of educational achievement, training, skill, and/or ability necessary.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience in public school district transportation preferred
- Possess an understanding of the nuances related to the school bus industry
- Possess good time management and organizational skills and work efficiently on assigned tasks and department goals
- Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Email, Docs, Sheets, etc.,
- Have strong written and oral communication skills required
- Ability to problem solve and use deductive reasoning
- Interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanor in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work both independently and with a team
- Must maintain active CDL with school bus and passenger endorsements
- Must successfully complete and maintain compliance with all federal and state background and criminal record check requirements
- Must adhere to all local, state, federal, and school code requirements for employment
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Employee must have the ability to perform the following essential functions on a timely basis with or without reasonable accommodations. To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Serve as a responder on telephones and bus radio systems.
- Interface with communications programs to notify families and staff about bus schedules, changes, student assignments, and bus delays.
- Process department bills and invoices.
- Maintain electronic fleet service records.
- Work collaboratively with Human Resources to maintain oversight and compliance of staff clearances required by Pennsylvania Department of Education, mandated training, and other requirements of employment.
- Work with staff to keep driving credentials up to date and in compliance at all times.
- Assist with bus routing and student enrollment as needed.
- Gain and maintain an in-depth knowledge of the Unionville-Chadds Ford School District’s geography and road systems, as well as the district bus routes and their intricacies.
- Monitor transportation office inbox to address emails that pertain to your specific duties, and pass along communications that require attention from the Supervisor.
- Assist the Supervisor in addressing the needs of drivers, parents, and community members, and refer matters to the Supervisor when appropriate.
- Interface with parents, students, district staff, and community members in a professional manner which represents the transportation department in a positive way.
- Will be required to drive a school van or bus when needed.
- Regular and consistent attendance.
- Assist the Supervisor with other tasks and projects, and perform other duties as assigned.
