DESCRIPTION

Morgan Stanley Investment Research is uniquely committed to being an essential part of our clients' investment process. We strive to be the sell-side research provider that best understands the buy side. Through relevant and timely conversations with leading investors, we focus resources on risk-reward essentials: identifying the investor debates, assessing the potential outcomes, and uncovering the evidence our clients need to validate their investment decisions. Our equity analysts cover some 3,000 stocks; our economists, strategists and fixed income analysts cover all major regions and other asset classes around the globe.

Morgan Stanley’s North American Fixed Income Research team is looking for an Analyst/Associate to join the US Interest Rate Strategy team. The role involves communicating with institutional clients, writing research notes, conducting bespoke analysis, and building and maintaining analytical models. The candidate must possess strong analytical, interpersonal, excel, oral and written communication skills.
Primary Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will contribute to the analysis of US interest rate markets with a specific focus on interest rate derivatives - implied volatility, skew, and the volatility surface. The role would include a mix of quantitative and qualitative analysis of data sets, relative value in derivative products, and market events and opportunities. The role also involves publishing research notes and/or trade ideas. The role also involves speaking to clients and presenting at meetings, so strong communication skills are important.
In addition, applicants must be able to work on their own initiative. Be capable of solving problems independently and to question conventional wisdom.

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate would have the following:
  • 2+ years of work experience in interest rate analysis, quantitative analysis, trading, or similar roles
  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in a quantitative subject (e.g., financial engineering, operations research, math, statistics, computer science).
  • Strong quantitative skills, ideally with experience in data analysis using R, Matlab, Python, or other programming languages.
  • Experience in Microsoft Excel and VBA programming.
  • Familiar with applied statistical methods.
  • Understanding of monetary policy and macroeconomic developments.
  • Proven writing ability and strong verbal communication skills.

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $150,000 and $200,000 per year for Associate, and between $225,000 and $250,000 per year for Vice President, at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
Morgan Stanley's goal is to build and maintain a workforce that is diverse in experience and background but uniform in reflecting our standards of integrity and excellence. Consequently, our recruiting efforts reflect our desire to attract and retain the best and brightest from all talent pools. We want to be the first choice for prospective employees. It is the policy of the Firm to ensure equal employment opportunity without discrimination or harassment on the basis of race, color, religion, creed, age, sex, sex stereotype, gender, gender identity or expression, transgender, sexual orientation, national origin, citizenship, disability, marital and civil partnership/union status, pregnancy, veteran or military service status, genetic information, or any other characteristic protected by law. Morgan Stanley is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversifying its workforce (M/F/Disability/Vet).
