US Synthetic, a ChampionX company has an immediate need for a Student Engineer – Automation located in Orem, UT. The Student Engineer (Automation) will assist engineers in improving, designing and assembling a wide variety of complex tools and/or machines and robust manufacturing processes.
This is a day shift position and will close 5/11/2023

What You Will Do:
  • Use mill, lathe and hand tools to build/assemble components according to print specifications
  • Work on projects assigned by engineers dealing with a wide variety of disciplines such as controls, instrumentation, machine design and developing manufacturing processes
  • Run experiments and collect data on part machining, temperature, etc.
  • Document and store all results and experimental data in an organized laboratory notebook
  • Observe machinery and processes to help diagnose problems such as yields, throughput, costs, etc.
  • Evaluate completed projects and check for proper conformance to US Synthetic specifications
  • Work with automation and manufacturing engineers to review and monitor the new quality and/or process improvements
  • Give periodic reports of activities associated with process engineering i.e. benefits, costs, deadlines, etc.
  • Any other duties as assigned by engineers
  • Work flexible hours around school schedule; ideally work 20 hours a week

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma/GED is required
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License
  • Immigration sponsorship not available for this role
  • Must have been accepted to a bachelor’s engineering program at a university with intent to graduate; mechanical emphasis preferred or equivalent
Physical Demands:
  • Sit, stand and walk
  • Full range of motion and ability with hands and harms
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
  • Good visual acuity
  • Use of Safety Equipment (Safety glasses, Latex/nitrile gloves, Respirator)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to read and understand product prints
  • Machine shop skills for prototyping and performing proof of concepts or a willingness and aptitude to learn these skills
  • Solid modeling experience; Pro-E preferred
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good mechanical intuition and curiosity
  • Good analytical skills
  • Good understanding of Lean and Six Sigma principles
  • Knowledge of engineering principles, concepts, practices and theories
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Knowledge of how to run mills and lathes
