Job description

You’ll be part of the controls team responsible for designing Nxu control algorithms for Nxu’s proprietary embedded systems like motor, steering, braking and suspension control modules as well as battery management and charging systems that aim at reducing cost and complexity in the vehicle’s electronic and electrical architecture.

From concept to production launch, you will work on controls design, technical requirements, researching and developing solutions, and developing models from design to validation. Responsibilities will include developing real-time mathematical models using MATLAB and Simulink, assisting system engineering teams, improving performance development capability with new tools and simulations, developing predictive control models, and applying technology and innovation to new projects beyond what any EV industries provide.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop control and measurement algorithms for battery/cabin thermal management, power delivery, charging, motor, and chassis systems by both applying 1D simulation/mathematical modeling and a high-fidelity physics-based modeling approach
  • Take responsibility for developing MIL/SIL/HIL through simulation, testing, and validation
  • Write functional and performance specifications
  • Develop and execute test plans
  • Troubleshoot issues and test systems in both the virtual and physical world
  • Collaborate with battery pack, powertrain, chassis, firmware, and hardware teams

IDEALLY, YOU HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH:

  • Strong knowledge of Matlab/Simulink
  • Familiarity with Simscape
  • Strong background in model predictive control approaches applied in Electric vehicle control design
  • Direct experience in modeling/simulation for powertrain thermal management of electric motors, battery packs thermal management, and cabin HVAC
  • Familiarity with charge, discharge, health, active balancing, and power availability of batteries
  • Knowledge of ACDC & DCDC systems
  • Understanding the vehicle dynamics and dynamic equations and control designs
  • Knowledge of Motor control algorithms, torque vector control, and PWM schemes
  • Experience in electro-mechanical systems,
  • Knowledge of functional safety ISO26262, ASIL and charging standards
  • Proven background in signal processing and using digital filters
  • Knowledge of Embedded software (C, C++)
