(UCI), located in Columbia, South Carolina, provides non-medical management and administrative services to 50+ Doctors Care urgent care centers and 20+ Progressive Physical Therapy facilities located throughout South Carolina. We are currently seeking a Vice President of Operations. This position reports to the Chief Executive Officer.
Job Summary:
This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all aspects of center operations within the guidelines of established policies in order to provide high quality health care services in a highly customer service-oriented atmosphere to the community. Provides the leadership, management and vision necessary to ensure that the organization has the proper operational controls, administrative and reporting procedures as well as people systems in place to effectively grow the organization and to ensure financial strength and operating efficiency in accordance with center operating budgets, goals and objectives. Ensures patient clinical and safety needs are met by operating all facilities in compliance with all federal, state and local requirements.
Essential Functions:
  • Responsible for driving the organization’s Mission, Vision, and Values, operational strategy and hiring in order to ensure outstanding care is delivered and mindful of maintaining a focus on “putting the patient’s care first.”
  • Translates strategy into actionable steps for growth, implementing organizational-wide goal setting, performance management and annual operations planning by collaborating with responsible departments and leading to successful outcomes. Provides leadership to the Senior Operations Director, Regional Operations Directors, Senior Director of Clinical Applications, Call Center Manager and UCI In-Center Staff.
  • Creates, implements and tracks operational metrics to gauge the efficiency and effectiveness of internal and external processes.
  • Monitors performance trends, and partners with leadership teams to ensure that financial/operational goals are achieved.
  • Evaluates current operational processes, identifies areas for improvement and makes recommendations for improved efficiencies.
  • Works with department heads to enhance existing services, develop new services and manage expenses.
  • Oversees operational budget and participates in budget reviews and revisions per the requirements of the business.
  • Oversees Clinical Applications and Support and ensures the electronic medical records applications are functioning efficiently. Ensures the systems are working to the company’s maximum benefit.
  • Ensures staff is properly equipped with appropriate resources in order to achieve operational expectations while maintaining appropriate revenue goals and margins. Alerts CFO of expense and labor variances, and makes recommendations and implements solutions to address.
  • Coaches and educates leaders regarding the behaviors required to implement best practice processes which enhance operational effectiveness and emphasize cost containment and high-quality patient care.
  • Ensures a strong and robust communications’ process between all directors, managers, and staff within all area departments and centers.
  • Advises all direct and in-direct staff on issues including safety, security, employee relations, scheduling, training, grievances and the like. Ensures all direct and in-direct staff are adhering to company policy and operating in a fair and equitable manner.
  • Hires, trains, develops and evaluates operations staff effectively. Takes corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy. Consults with Human Resources as appropriate.
  • Actively participates in the delivery and achievement of superior patient care experiences. Promotes, educates and holds employees responsible for providing excellent service to all customers including patients, visitors, and internal stakeholders.
  • Participates in risk management activities to promote the safety of patients, visitors and employees.
  • Leads with the company’s C.A.R.E. values as the basis of a strong company culture and operational effectiveness.
Supervisory Responsibilities :
  • Senior Operations Director directly reports to the VP of Operations.
  • Senior Director of Clinical Applications directly reports to the VP of Operations.
  • Call Center Manager directly reports to the VP of Operations.
  • Corporate Training Director directly reports to the VP of Operations.
  • Clinical Applications will report to the VP of Operations.
  • All UCI clinical staff indirectly report up to the VP of Operations.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in business or healthcare administration related field with 10 + years of health care experience with 5 years management experience/operational responsibility of at least senior-management level
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate others and achieve revenue, cost and profitability improvement goals
  • Must be a strategic thinker with ability to critically analyze problems and generate creative and effective solutions
  • Data-driven and fact-based decision maker who can coach others and sell the benefits of positive change
  • Proven track record in change management
  • Demonstrated leadership competency in customer needs and expectations, human resources management, financial outcomes, data management, strategic vision and planning, marketing initiatives an continuous improvement skills
  • Proven ability to exercise a high degree of initiative, judgment and discretion
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures to manage operations and ensure effective patient care
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of health care administration, fiscal management, and government regulations and reimbursements.
  • Strong project management, communication, organizational, negotiation, interpersonal, customer service and team building skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel to all centers within the organization
Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience as a healthcare VP with multisite operations.
