The Eye Care Center at LCHC is looking for a compassionate and flexible individual to join our team as a Specialty Care Coordinator. You will be an essential team member that is committed to delivering exceptional care in our state-of-the art Eye Care Center that improves the health of the patients it serves through prevention, treatment and education. Our Specialty Care Coordinators serve an integral role on the Eye Care team with a wide variety of duties from greeting patients as they arrive to coordinating their care throughout the organization for the optimal patient experience. Summary:

Under moderate supervision, the Specialty Care Coordinator in the Eye Care Center will:

  • Greet every patient in a multi-cultural environment in friendly and courteous manner
  • Check-in patients in timely, confidential and detailed fashion reviewing patient demographics, pre-health screening, insurance plans and other financial information
  • Aid patients in filling forms and ensure all forms are obtained, completed and signed
  • Answer phone calls and direct calls, utilizing language line as needed
  • Explain patient insurance and eligibility to patients or refer to health benefits when needed
  • Understand patient benefits with medical insurances, vision insurances for eye exams and materials (i.e. eyeglasses, contact lenses, etc.) and pull authorizations for visits or material benefits as needed from insurances
  • Collect co-pays and payments when required
  • Schedule patients for follow-up appointments in Eye Care Center as well as other departments of LCHC, answer any questions as needed.
  • Process and schedule referrals to other providers/specialists in area when required
  • Check patients out confirming that system is ready to post proper codes for billing and collecting payments for glasses or contact lenses or other services
  • Reconcile payments at end of shift with supervisor
  • Able to multi-task and prioritize tasks needed to stay on Eye Care Center provider schedule
  • Cross-train in other areas (i.e. optical, assisting, referrals, etc.)
  • Bi-lingual in English and Portuguese, Spanish or Khmer highly desired

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The assigned duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:


General

  • Provide excellent customer service to all patients and staff in multi-cultural and fast-paced environment
  • Utilize language lines when needed to communicate with patients
  • Adhere to privacy and confidential and proprietary company policies and procedures (Lowell CHC guidelines)
  • Maintain open lines of communication with staff, peers and supervisors in Eye Care Clinic and other Lowell CHC departments
  • Participate in educational meetings and training activities as outlined by departmental guidelines and goals
  • Must be flexible and adaptable based on health center requirements
  • Assure readiness prior to business operations and perform all actions needed for business day end
  • Demonstrate effective prioritization of day-to-day operations
  • Maintain the cleanliness of all equipment, areas and work stations
  • Some weeknight or weekend availability needed in future
  • All other duties as assigned and needed.

Requirements:

This position requires a high school diploma or general education degree (GED). Some experience in the eye care/medical field and insurance knowledge is highly desired. Experience working in diverse community and understanding of multi-cultural beliefs and practices is a plus.
