This newly created position will be responsible for oversight of and the daily decision making for all aspects of visitor and guest services at Hidden Lake Gardens including (but not limited to) Customer Service, Gatehouse, Gift Shop, Custodial (Room and Event Set-up), and Security Services. This position will oversee a staff of 4-6 employees, volunteers, and/or student interns.

Due to the nature of our work at HLG, regular weekend hours are/will be required.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge normally acquired from specialized training such as that acquired in one year of college, technical, vocational, trade or business school with coursework in a field related to the area of employment; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in performing tasks related to the area of employment, and one to three years supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Experience working in a visitor/customer service role within a public garden, museum, nature center, or other public education facility.
• Service industry experience helpful such as retail or hospitality.
• Be comfortable representing HLG/MSU with public, local media, etc. (acting as spokesperson on occasion).
• Be able to work indoors and outdoors in heat, humidity, cold, rain, snow, wind, etc.
• Exhibit grace under pressure, calmly handle stressful situations.
• Excellent communication skills required - verbal, written, technical.

Work Hours

8-5 Tuesday through Friday. Position will require frequent weekend hours and may require overtime. This position will oversee emergency procedures related to the campus grounds in order to ensure the continuation of HLG Operations.
