POSITION SUMMARY
The Vice President (VP), Chief of Staff (COS), will act as a strategic advisor to the President and CEO of UVM Health Network (UVMHN) and act to implement key initiatives of the office of the CEO.
The President & CEO (“CEO”) of UVM Health Network leads the enterprise for one of the country’s most well respected rural health care systems, transforming health care delivery for Vermont and the North Country of New York, while seeking to be a national leader in value based, integrated rural academic health care.
The Chief of Staff is a partner, confidante, and sounding board for the CEO and aids in navigating strategic issues, identifying and troubleshooting risks, and achieving the goals of both the CEO, and the system. This role is designed to enable the CEO and the COS to work most effectively with internal and external stakeholders and fulfill commitments to UVMHN partners, Board of Directors, UVMHN Executive team, etc. The COS is responsible for ensuring the success of the transformation at UVMHN through on-time value delivery across all initiatives. This role will work across the organization to track initiative progress and provide necessary support to initiative leads as well as to engage CEOs senior staff regularly on appropriate progress updates and challenges. The COS role will oversee successful transformation launch and transition into steady-state operations, with potential extension according to senior leadership discretion.
The Chief of Staff works closely with members of the hospital and system senior management teams, the UVMHN Board of Trustees, partner boards and clinical leadership including department chairs and administration.
This position engages in matters that are highly sensitive and confidential and therefore requires a mature individual with high integrity and emotional intelligence. The Chief of Staff will perform in a high-demand, fast paced environment requiring high intellectual capacity, sound professional judgement, use of diplomacy, and responsiveness to inquiries and requests from a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred
  • 5-10 years executive experience
  • Proven track record of successful management, leadership and decision making in a highly matrixed and collaborative organizational environment
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and strong managerial ability
  • Trustworthy, operates with the highest standards of ethics and personal integrity
  • Display high intellectual capacity, sound professional judgment and discretion to lead in complex, changing, and ambiguous environments
  • Strong strategic thinking skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively and strategically in a team environment with all levels of professional, technical, and administrative staff
