Salary: UCFW Laborer’s Union, Grade 8L, Step 5 – Starting at $23.03 per hour ($20.28 base hourly + $2.25 per hour for CDL-B and Water Distribution Grade 2 required licenses)
Licenses/Certifications: CDL Class B, Water Distribution Grade 2

SUMMARY

The City of Chicopee’s Department of Public Works – Water Department is hiring an Water System Maintenance Worker to assign to Hydrant Maintenance to be primarily responsible for maintain the City-owned fire hydrants including but not limited to repairs and rebuilds, flushing, replacement of worn meters, and overall assistance with water system maintenance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE
  • Maintain City-owned fire hydrants and hydrant records
  • Lubricates hydrants, inspects hydrant rods, thrust plates and nozzles on a regular basis.
  • Flushes city owned fire hydrants
  • Assist with installation of water services
  • Must be available to assist with snow removal operations, during normal working hours but also for evenings, weekends, holidays.
  • Other duties as assigned per the full job description

QUALIFICATIONS
To be minimally qualified for this position, one must meet the following criteria:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 2 Years of experience in hydrant maintenance
  • Must possess a CDL-Class B
  • Must possess a Massachusetts Water Distribution License Grade 2

This is a
full time, 40-hour/week position, with a schedule of 7:00am-3:30pm, Monday – Friday.
This role is classified as a UFCW Laborer’s Union, Grade 8L, starting at Step 5, with a combined base hourly rate and minimum license incentives of $23.03 per hour, with periodic step and pay increases upon continuous completion of employment with the City of Chicopee.
