The Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Division of Workers Compensation is recruiting for a Workers' Compensation Officer 2 located in Fairbanks !
The position is in the Supervisory Unit (SU) at a range 18.

What you will be doing:
This supervisory position functions as an office manager and Prehearing Officer. This position oversees daily workflow and supervises one Office Assistant 1 and one Workers' Compensation Technician. The position acts as a board designee, conducts informal prehearing conferences, decides on discovery disputes, and reviews pleadings for compliance with statute and regulation, and determines the course of action to move cases forward.

The Adjudications section is responsible for interpreting the Alaska Workers’ Compensation Act in a fair and impartial manner to ensure the quick, efficient and predictable delivery of medical and indemnity benefits to injured workers at a reasonable cost to employers and insurance carriers. This position serves as a board designee and conducts informal prehearing conferences and decides on discovery disputes, facilitates or help resolve dispute at this level or determine the next course of action to move the case forward.

To be successful in the position a candidate will need the following core competencies:
  • Experience in interpreting and applying workers’ compensation statutes, regulatory procedures, and court decisions relating to industrial injury or disease.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities in:

  • Interpreting and applying workers' compensation statutes, regulatory procedures, court decisions, and treatises relating to industrial injury or disease
  • Principles and practices of investigation
  • Techniques and methods of conducting impartial hearings and securing voluntary compliance
equivalent to those typically gained by:
Professional experience in administrative or regulatory law; adjusting or reviewing workers' compensation claims or claim determinations; or coordinating vocational rehabilitation services for injured workers.
