The ideal candidate will have knowledge of OSHA safety protocols, skilled in maintenance and repair of equipment and the ingenuity and inventiveness to complete the assigned work efficiently and effectively. About the Position:
You will play the integral role of providing maintenance services to sustain a continuing program of waste water treatment. This may include performing confined space entries, operating a variety of vehicles (dump truck, fork-lift, pick-up truck, mower, etc.), repairing and overhauling pumps, compressors, conveyers, piping and other pollution control equipment. You may also be responsible for checking machinery vibration levels and performing building maintenance activities.

Position Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:30pm

Successful completion of a pre-employment background check, physical examination (if applicable) and drug screen are required prior to employment with the City of Cedar Rapids.
The City of Cedar Rapids does not offer sponsorship for employment authorization.

Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills

  • Repairs and overhauls pumps, compressors, conveyers, piping and other pollution control equipment;
  • Wears and properly uses safety equipment including personal protective, fall protection equipment, self-contained breathing apparatus and gas detection equipment;
  • Drives dump truck;
  • Operates fork-lift and other material handling equipment;
  • Performs snow removal activities;
  • Maintains vehicles;
  • Performs building maintenance activities;
  • Cuts weeds; mows grass;
  • Paints equipment and buildings;
  • Lubricates machinery;
  • Adjusts or replaces pump packing;
  • Checks machinery vibration levels;
  • Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies, procedures and safety practices;
  • Attends work regularly at the designated place and time;
  • Supports continuous process improvement initiatives;
  • Performs related work as required.

Minimum qualifications & Requirements

Acceptable Experience and Training:

  • Two years experience in maintenance and minor repair of machinery or mechanical equipment; or
  • Two years of related education, apprenticeship, or trade in a related field; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience, training, and educations which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
Required Special Qualifications:
  • Iowa Commercial Driver's License (Class B) with appropriate endorsements and Medical Examiners Certificate within 6 months of employment.
