Position Details
Stewards Individual Placement Program (SIPP) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health. SIPP in partnership with the Morgantown Board of Parks and Recreation are seeking a WVREADY Summer Activities Leader to work alongside Park staff and during the 2023 BOPARC Day Camp.
BOPARC Day Camp is a summer long, outdoor traditional day camp that blends recreational activities, arts and crafts, science and nature exploration and includes supervised afternoon swim lessons at Marilla Pool. Campers a divided in groups based on the grade they will be entering in the fall 2023 (entering 1st-2nd, entering 3rd-4th, entering 5th-6th). BOPARC has been a local summer camp provider for over 30 years! The 2023 camp sessions run June 12-August 11 and include sports specific camps, arts camps, music camps, science/nature/steam camps, as well as our general day camp program.
Position Responsibilities will include:
- Outdoor Education
- Work with supervisor to learn outdoor education curricula, goals, and objectives from BOPARC
- Work directly with students in 1-6th grade at the BOPARC Day Camp on nature, science, ecology, environmental stewardship, local conservation projects, and other related curricula execution.
- Collaborate with other WV READY intern at BOPARC on outdoor classroom management and curricula.
- Provide outdoor training on trails and public property with students in 1-6th grade over the course of the summer program.
- Transport and move park materials for education purposes as needed.
- Potential environmental/human risks associated with this activity
- Ensuring safety of youth ages 6-12 during outdoor activities.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be a US Citizen, National, or Lawful Permanent Resident
- Able to commit to a 10-week service term
- Position begins on or before June 12, 2023
- Must be 18 years old or older
- West Virginia resident preferred
