JOB SUMMARY:

The Yard Driver/Roll Clamp Operator is a dual role responsible for operating tractors to switch empty and full trailers to and from the shipping dock and yard trailer parking area. In addition to these duties, during times of yard inactivity, incumbent is expected to fulfill warehouse duties. Manual loading and unloading of freight with the use of a pallet jack, hand truck or forklift, general labor, and warehouse maintenance. Roll Clamp experience preferred.


Shift: 7am-3:30pm, Monday-Friday (some OT and weekends may be required)


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Yard Driver/Roll Clamp Operator performs to the following tasks:

  • Receives shipping schedule for ensuing shift and operates truck tractor to move filled trailers to yard parking area as designated
  • Monitors and ensures that safety chocks are in place during loading process and removed for return to parking area
  • Places and removes dock boards as required
  • Cleans out trailers after placement at dock for loading
  • Assist shipping and receiving, unloading trucks, by use of equipment such as hand truck or pallet jack, or by using forklift
  • Checking in merchandise, matching purchase orders to sales orders and distributing for processing by lot numbers
  • Reading customer orders, work orders, shipping orders, or requisitions to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed and/or shipped
  • Verify and note the count and condition of cargo received, knowing when to either refuse or accept with notation.
  • Perform roll clamp/forklift duties and learn to cube basic loads.
  • Assist in various warehouse maintenance tasks, including sweeping floors, storing equipment, etc.
  • Perform any other tasks assigned to support and improve the overall team operations
  • Inspect outbound products for quality assurance

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Thorough knowledge of traffic laws and defensive driving
  • Skilled in operation of listed tools and equipment
  • Ability to safely drive various vehicles
  • Yard dog experience preferred
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors and the general public
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Balances team and individual responsibilities
  • Ability to perform heavy manual tasks under varying weather conditions
  • Ability to make independent judgments which have moderate impacts on the organization
  • Ability and availability to work irregular or extended hours including nights, weekends and potentially holidays as needed by the customer
  • Must have clean driving record, and pass company pre-employment background check and drug screening
  • Sufficient strength and dexterity to control tractor and hitch with full or empty trailers
  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to operate forklift (preferably roll clamp), hand truck and pallet jack.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Graduation from high school or GED equivalent, one (1) year relevant experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to do the job. Prior yard driver experience preferred.


CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Possess or have ability to become roll clamp certified
  • Valid Driver’s License
