Youth Services Advisor - Kids
Job description
Do you enjoy connecting kids of all ages with the perfect book? Or brainstorming with others to deliver exciting and interactive programs based on a great non-fiction series you just discovered?
We are looking for a creative, resourceful and enthusiastic individual to work with families and children of all ages at our library. This part-time position involves creating and leading innovative programs, supporting outreach visits and contributing to readers advisory services. This position interacts with the public at both our Kids’ World desk and the Hub (teen space) to connect our community to books, movies, music, games, programs and all the information resources the library has to offer.
This individual will enjoy answering quirky questions from our young customers and desires to work on a team of dedicated library staff to meet the needs of the youth and caregivers in our diverse community. An ideal candidate will also have a flexible schedule and be an effective communicator to support the team and our customers.
Requirements & Skills:
- Positive and welcoming communication skills in order to excel in Our Culture
- Proficient in using technology (e.g. computers, tablets, internet) to assist customers
- Strong written and verbal communications, including presentations
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Familiarity with principles of classroom management and childhood development concepts
- A good working knowledge of books, movies and pop culture for kids and teens preferred
- Experience working with youth and multicultural audiences preferred
- Experience in customer service and group instruction preferred
Education:
Undergraduate degree or equivalent knowledge and skill in area(s) related to the responsibilities of this position. Experience in customer service and group instruction preferred.
Hours and Scheduling:
Part-time position, averaging 20 hours per week, including one regular weeknight and weekend rotation. Flexibility in scheduling is needed to support the team and our customers.
Salary and Benefits:
Starting salary $18.55–$23.19/hour depending on qualifications
Benefits include two weeks of prorated leave time, which include vacation, sick and personal time plus 7 paid holidays, participation in Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) pension plan and availability of Roth/457savings plan.
