Job description
As the Refugee Community Program Coordination VISTA, your goal will be to develop and strengthen Refugee Services Office (RSO) programming for refugee clients and communities. You will increase sustainability and replicability of offered programs, develop pathways to increase accessibility and equitability, and develop pathways to boost collaboration between local refugee service providers and mainstream organizations to meet the identified needs and interests of clients utilizing RSO’s services. The ideal candidate will have an interest in program development, community organization and outreach, and program recruitment. They must have excellent cross-cultural communication, writing/editing skills, and a willingness to conduct community outreach and organization. They will be comfortable in training, assessing, and partnering with refugee community members and programs to best meet identified needs and desired program outcomes. The Refugee Community Program Management VISTA is one of nine AmeriCorps VISTA members involved in the Utah Refugee VISTA Project (URVP). Our VISTAs serve at three sites across the Salt Lake Valley, but still work closely with one another. URVP VISTAs can expect professional development, mentorship, and support from AmeriCorps and their host organizations. Serving in Salt Lake City, there is always something new to do! Member Duties : Implement, assess, and subsequently modify programming and training materials to ensure sustainability of RSO programs including: sewing, IT/tech (Java, Python, etc), dance, youth programming, and adult programming focused on education, employment, and integration. Develop and pilot new RSO programs to meet assessed individual and community-level needs through a lens that addresses poverty cycles. Develop interventions and support systems to address identified barriers to equitable program access.
