At Asher's Chocolates, we understand that one of life's sweetest pleasures is a simple box of chocolates. A family-owned-and-operated business, we've been making our fine chocolates and other classic confections for over four generations. We follow strict manufacturing practices to ensure that we have a quality product. Makeup, nail-polish/artificial nails, highly scented products, clothing contain objects, and jewelry are not permitted on the production floor. Asher's provides safety equipment to make sure that our product is of the highest quality. Appropriate footwear for the specific production area must be wore at all times.

The process of making candy can be challenging. Many factors go into creating our products. The work environment can be hot, cold, noisy, and/or very fast paced. You will regularly work on your feet for long periods of time, have repetitive motions with hands, elbows, shoulders, arms and legs, perform lifting of up to 35 pounds, and be asked to comprehend instructions (written and verbal) in English.

Summary:

The responsibility for preparing and cooking candy confections while performing the duties stated below.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Weigh and cook all candy formulas in quantities per the manufacturing instructions.
• Deposit cooked or mixed batches of product into the manufacturing equipment for processing.
• Test the batches to ensure they are meeting the quality specifications.
• Will operate various confectionary equipment to process cooked or mixed confections.
• Wash the cooking utensils and equipment as needed.
• Making recommendations concerning the production or procedure modifications
• Assuring that the processing equipment is in good working order prior to operations and to report any discrepancies to management or maintenance
• Keeping the work area clean and orderly.
• Restocking raw materials in the department as they are needed
• May be assigned to assist co-workers in other departments when necessary
• Responsible to Department Manager and subordinate staff members to:
  • Help direct activities of one or more workers who assist in preparing and processing batches.

  • Process batches per formula specifications and production schedules.

  • Able to interrelate with department personnel.

  • Ensure that safety practices are always exercised.

• Responsible to QA to:
  • Ensure that the department is maintained in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices, which includes housekeeping and hygiene practices

  • Ensure that product quality conditions and requirements are consistently met and documented.

Qualifications:

Ability to read, write, and communicate English

Education:

Must have a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Experience:

Needs to have acquired 1-3 years related experience and/ or training. Equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

Must possess the knowledge and understanding of recipe following and practicing of good manufacturing principles.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms for an 8-hour shift. Employees must frequently lift and/ or move up to 100 pounds whether physically or with the aid of material handling equipment.
