Job Description
This position serves as an Academic Advisor/Student Success Specialist focused primarily on meeting the needs of our incoming and returning students, ensuring they are well prepared, on track and meeting their educational goals.
Position responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Serve as a student advisor and assist with the enrollment, registration, orientation and schedule planning processes.
- Investigate and utilize retention strategies aimed at student success and completion.
- Be knowledgeable of all programs offered to promote the college and assist student’s in meeting their individual goals.
- Ensure students are taking correct courses for transfer in specific programs and institutions.
- Interprets placement test scores, advises students of course placement and works with students to develop an educational plan based on placement, academic and life goals and career aspirations.
- Monitors student progress of academically deficient students requiring ongoing contact with student and instructors.
- Provide referrals to other campus and community resources regarding student issues both academic and personal. Act as a student advocate in addressing the educational, emotional, and physical development for each student.
- Perform other duties as assigned to ensure that Ridgewater College has a high-quality student experience from start to finish. Examples include, but are not limited to: various phone call campaigns, assisting with event days, serving on college committees as requested, and assisting other offices.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree and minimum of one-year related work experience.
- Knowledge of post-secondary education, student development philosophy, policy, and practices.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally for diverse audiences to motivate and share information, about the college and programs while also gathering required information.
- Ability to multitask and to be professional, flexible, and tactful in dealing with time constraints and stressful situations in a changing environment.
- Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with the internal and external college and community stakeholders and to make decisions that will positively represent the college.
- Experience with academic advising and/or retention initiatives with a diverse student population.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with a MnSCU institution
- Bilingual
- Bachelors or Master’s degree
Knowledge of:
- State and Federal statutes, policies, and regulations in regard to educational institutions.
- Student services/student life policies, procedures and promising practices.
- Required computer software applications such as ISRS, Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Publisher and/or Adobe Photoshop, Access, Internet, Social Networking, etc. and well as office equipment (computer, fax, copier, etc.).
Other Requirements
In accordance with the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities (MnSCU) Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to MnSCU’s vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
