The CAPS Mental Health in Academics Coordinator reports to the CAPS Director of Mental Health Promotion. Consistent with the definition articulated by the World Health Organization, mental health is understood as “a state of mental well-being that enables people to cope with the stresses of life, realize their abilities, learn well and work well, and contribute to their community.” Mental health promotion is guided by the core value of health equity, the state in which everyone has a fair and just opportunity to attain their highest levels of health and well-being. Achieving this requires ongoing efforts to address historical and contemporary injustices; overcome economic, social, and other obstacles to health and health care; and eliminate preventable health disparities.
