Hearth is a non-profit organization dedicated to the elimination of homelessness among the elderly. This mission is accomplished through a unique blend of prevention, placement, and housing programs all designed to help elders find and succeed in homes of their own.
The Activities Coordinator organizes and implements Activities and Social/Recreational Events to enrich and support the intellectual, physical, creative and spiritual growth of the residents at Hearth. Empowering the tenants by involving them in choosing the activities/events that appeal to them and whenever possible sharing a leadership role with them.
The Activities Coordinator will schedule one major trip for each season of the year. All Hearth residential tenants will be invited to these outings. These major events could include trip such as a cruise to Provincetown in the Summer, a Fishing Trip in the Spring, a foliage trip in the Autumn, etc. (These are trips we have taken in the past, actual events are to be planned with the tenants.). He/she will also plan one local event each month. This could include a trip to the Science Museum’s Omni Theater, a show or theater event, a visit to one of the parks, etc. and finally there should be several in house weekly activities that may be run either by the Activities Coordinator, a volunteer or another staff person. Activities included in this category would include activities such as bingo, table games, theater group, videos, etc. The Activities Coordinator oversees these activities and monitors and records participation. This position is part time and benefit eligible!
Duties and Responsibilities
Activities
- Create and implement weekly (2-3 activities per workday) in-house activities such as BINGO, table games, arts & crafts, etc.
- Oversee activities led by outside volunteers
- Plan and facilitate events or parties for residents in collaboration with the Program Manager
- Plans community events for residents to participate in.
- Meet with residents weekly to review and plan for up-coming activities.
Outreach
- Perform regular in-person outreach to residents to engage them in activities
- Create and distribute flyers and monthly activity calendars
- Research appropriate community activities for resident participation
- Engage residents in the planning process for events and activities
Administrative
- Produce a monthly newsletter with the residents
- Attend weekly staff meeting
- Hold periodic program planning and review meetings with residents to encourage resident input and leadership to program
- Document activities and resident participation
- Complete documentation as required by the Age Strong Commission in collaboration with the program manager
- Shop for all program supplies
- Maintain the supply closet and keep an inventory of supplies
- Decorate bulletin board/common area
- Reach out to community organizations for free and discounted outside activities
- Write thank you letters to volunteers
Hours
PT - 20 hours per week. Tuesday through Friday, 12noon-5:00pm
*Hours will be worked between two locations, which are located approx. 3 miles apart.

Education, Experience and Licensure
B.A. or 3 years experience working with elders or individuals with disabilities preferred.
Have Computer competency, specifically email, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Publisher or other calendar programs. Ability to work with tenants from various social, cultural and ethnic backgrounds in a team approach.
