Job Summary
Oversees the development, implementation, supervision and ongoing evaluation of the community's activity programs.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide leadership to Activities staff and volunteers. Assist with staff attraction and retention efforts, including hiring, onboarding, staff development, coaching and counseling and performance management. Ensure delegation of responsibility, authority and accountability.
- Maintain and implement policies and procedures related to center's Activities Department. Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements related to therapeutic activities.
- Complete the activities component of a comprehensive assessment and update resident care plans based on assessment outcomes and resident preferences.
- Monitor and evaluate resident responses to activities and revise the approaches as appropriate.
- Participate as a member of the Interdisciplinary Team to evaluate the holistic Resident Centered Care needs for each resident and revise plan of care as needed.
- Coordinate all individual and group therapeutic activities. Schedule and publish a monthly activities calendar.
- Serve as activities program liaison to the Resident Council, the community, congregations and volunteers.
- Participate in Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives including Quality Improvement checks and month-end audits. Utilize regulatory reports to identify areas of opportunity for improvement.
Job Qualifications
Education, Training, and Licensure/Certification
- Associates degree in human services; Bachelor's degree preferred.
Experience
- Licensed in the State of Michigan as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist or Activity professional preferred.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Ability to display compassion and sensitivity with vulnerable adults who may become angry, hostile or combative.
- Ability to maintain a helping role when interfacing with persons served; intervenes when appropriate.
- Ability to apply rational thinking and understanding to carry out varied instructions. Deals with varied situations with changes in circumstances.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to read, speak and fluent English.
- Ability to effectively represent program and center through public speaking to church and community groups.
- Ability to create positive working relationships with staff, persons served and volunteers.
- Ability to relate positively to the church constituency and able to speak to church groups.
- Able to use computer software for word processing and basic data entry programs.
- Basic math skills with the ability to add, subtract and multiply two digit numbers.
Additional Work Requirements
- Weekend and evening hours required.
Physical and Mental Requirements
- Near visual acuity.
- Hand and finger dexterity.
- Hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to safely lift and transfer persons served on an as needed or regular basis and using appropriate level of assistance for lifts and transfers.
- Ability to push person in wheel chair weighing up to 250 pounds on a frequent basis, often for long distances.
