Assistant Controller Job description

Assistant Controller Qualifications/Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Highly skilled in math, accounting, and financial processes
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Detail oriented and highly organized
  • Skilled in time management and the ability to prioritize tasks
  • Excellent critical thinking skills
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and applicable regulations
  • Full Accounting cycle.

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field
  • At least 5 years’ experience in accounting – ideal in a sales & distribution environment
  • CPA or MBA preferred

Bilingual: English & Spanish (verbal & writing)

Typical duties of the assistant controller:

  • Prepares financial statements to summarize and forecast the company’s financial status.
  • Establishing and maintaining internal controls
  • Managing all aspects of the general ledger - produces and manages balance sheets and analyze future earnings and expenses.
  • Providing monthly, quarterly and year-end analyses
  • Coordinating or assisting with the budget process
  • Assists with management of accounting, auditing and budgeting within the organization.
  • Researching accounting issues for compliance with generally accepted accounting principles
  • Analyzing and reporting cost variances
  • Assists with preparations for audits.
  • Serving as a liaison to external auditors
  • Supervising accounts receivable, accounts payable and general accounting activities
  • Works to reconcile accounting inaccuracies or imbalances.
  • Ensures compliance with and prepare reports according to applicable government regulations (i.e. Municipal & PR Treasury)
  • Uses accounting software & tools (MS Excel, SAP Business 1, QuickBooks, etc.) to maintain records and prepare reports.
  • PC literate and must dominate these tools
  • Delegates accounting tasks to junior accounting staff as needed.
  • Quarterly Tax return.
  • Sales & Use tax return preparation.
  • Payroll process supervision.
  • Inventory Cycle counts and Physical inventory analysis.
  • Coordinates and prepares Ad hoc reports for Finance leadership, CFO and senior management.
  • Contributes to team efforts by accomplishing related tasks as needed.

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
