The Office of Student Volunteerism (OSV) at the University of Texas at Dallas empowers students to become lifelong, actively engaged global leaders who seek to understand, advocate, and respond to community issues and needs. We build high-impact volunteer service experiences that offer students the opportunity to learn about critical social issues and contribute their time and talents in a meaningful way.
The Assistant Director will oversee the coordination and facilitation of recurring events, programs, and special projects such as: Alternative Spring Break, VolunTemoc, and the UT Dallas Community Garden. Additionally, the Assistant Director will serve as a Responsible University Official (RUO) for on and off-campus service projects and leadership events. The Assistant Director will work closely with the director to develop new service-related programs and initiatives and supervise the Student Program Coordinator.
Bachelor’s degree in related field and three plus years relevant professional experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Master’s degree in higher education, non-profit management, or related field.
- Three or more years of professional experience in service program development and implementation in a higher education or non-profit setting.
- One to two years of experience supervising full-time staff members.
- Compelling interpersonal skills with a capacity to build positive partnerships and establish credibility with a wide range of constituents, both internal and external.
- Knowledge of program design, implementation strategies, and evaluation methods.
- Ability to design and implement service programs that meet student learning outcomes and achieve desired co-curricular goals.
- Proven ability to work independently and in a highly-collaborative team environment.
- Ability to supervise both full-time staff and student workers, providing regular feedback and professional development.
- Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to multitask in a high-energy environment, including working on multiple programs simultaneously.
- Demonstrated reliability and project follow-through.
- Excellent judgment and diplomacy are required.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Highly motivated and detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Flexibility and willingness to participate in seasonal domestic or potential international travel.
- Strong interpersonal, influencing, mentoring, and coaching skills.
- Experience with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is required.
- Strong social media networking skills.
- Develop volunteer projects, and programs that educate, connect, and empower UT Dallas students.
- Assist the director to implement new programs and campus-wide initiatives.
- Network and collaborate with community partners, campus partners, OSV staff, and student leaders.
- Supervise the Student Program Coordinator and EngageUTD Student Assistant.
- Conduct personnel functions for departmental staff, including hiring, supervising, and appraising the program coordinator (FTE). Provide leadership/guidance to the program coordinator related to OSV student employees. Assist the director in establishing team goals.
- Serve as a Responsible University Official (RUO) for on and off-campus service projects and leadership events.
- Oversee the coordination and facilitation of events, programs, and special projects such as Alternative Spring Break, VolunTemoc, and UT Dallas Community Garden program.
- Assist in the hiring, training, and management of OSV Student Leaders.
- Assist with Student Affairs Marketing in creating and managing promotional and marketing strategies including social media and department website.
- Promote volunteerism and service on campus and around the community. Maintain relationships with university departments, student organizations, local agencies, and community partners.
- Support EngageUTD, the OSV’s version of the GivePulse platform, by providing training & support, managing registration details, creating/editing accounts, posting volunteer opportunities, and approving event time sheets.
- Attend and serve as a representative at orientations, expos, fairs, and other informational events and workshops.
- Oversee program and event evaluation and assessment.
- Assume additional responsibilities as required.
After the probationary period, this role may be eligible for a hybrid (partly remote/partly in-office) work schedule, subject to business need and manager approval. Must be located within the DFW Area and have the ability to be on campus with 24 hours of notice. A UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required within 14 days after approval.
