Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit

Position Summary
The School of Music at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Tuba and Euphonium. We seek a progressive colleague committed to working with students from diverse musical and life experiences and backgrounds. The ideal candidate is a highly accomplished and versatile musician-teacher dedicated to access and excellence for all students. They will be a skilled and successful recruiter and teacher of undergraduate and graduate students and will fulfill duties and responsibilities commensurate with an academic position at a leading institution. The candidate will contribute to ongoing EDI efforts in the School of Music and will have additional experience in at least one of the following areas:

  • Brass literature and brass pedagogy
  • Popular and/or commercial music
  • Music technology, recording, and/or production
  • Non-canonical music
  • Western music theory and aural skills

Candidates should be experienced and actively engaged in advancing equity and inclusivity in their research, creative activities, and/or pedagogy. All candidates will be expected to articulate how systems of inequality shape disciplinary knowledge, typical practices in their field, and university environments in general, and how that informs their work.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in Tuba/Euphonium or equivalent professional experience
  • Demonstrated successful teaching experience at the College/University level
  • Demonstrated success in recruitment and retention of students
  • Strong record of performance (artistic achievement as a soloist and in chamber music)
  • A demonstrated commitment to ongoing development of competencies in the areas of equity, diversion, and inclusion, such as racial literacy and culturally responsive pedagogy

Preferred Qualifications
  • Emerging national reputation
  • Ability to teach brass-related and other coursework depending on the expertise and needs of the department
  • Experience working with diverse student populations at the undergraduate and graduate levels
