Job description
Summary/Objective
The Assistant Teacher provides support to the Lead Teacher in the academic, social-emotional growth and development of all students in their care. Assistant Teachers also must develop partnerships with parents in order to engage and encourage parent participation.
Essential Functions
- Ability to maintain classroom control
- Maintain a safe and healthy classroom
- Uphold confidentiality
- Be prepared to take on the role of lead teacher when needed
Daily Tasks
- Build relationships with parents and staff
- Provide a safe and clean environment for the students
- Assist the lead teacher with student supervision in the classroom, common areas and playground
- Actively engage in classroom activities
- Assist the lead teacher with classroom control
- Distribute projects and assignments to each student?s folder
- Assist in the completion of reports as needed (health, incident, accident, daily)
Weekly Tasks
- Make copies of classroom materials
- Inventory each student?s cubby for items needed (clothes, diaper, wipes, etc)
- Assist the lead teacher with lesson plans as needed
- Sanitize cots
- Check classroom equipment and materials to ensure they are in good repair
- Help resolve issues or concerns with parents as they arise-know when to involve the front office administration
Monthly Tasks
- Laminate teaching materials as needed
- Assist the lead teacher in updating classroom décor to reflect lessons
- Assist the lead teacher in developing projects/crafts for the month
Quarterly Tasks
- Perform student evaluations
- Work Parent?s Night Out (2 per year)
