JOB PURPOSE:

Oversees support services. Assists with recruiting students. Assists with recruiting and supervising fulltime and adjunct faculty, meeting accreditation requirements, fulfilling Navajo Technical University's assessment program evaluation, and strategic plan elements. Oversees the supervision of staff and interns assigned at the Chinle and Teec Nos Pos instructional sites. Assists with planning, organizing, staffing and management of campus operations and programs to deliver excellent career education to students.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops departmental plans, goals, and objectives and ensures compliance with regulations and requirements.
  • Plans, formulates, and recommends policies and programs that will further the objectives of the support services.
  • Provides leadership, and advice, and helps to implement strategic planning, vision, and mission of the University and its' instructional sites.
  • Oversees and supervises Chinle Instructional site faculty and staff.
  • Establishes Memorandums of Agreement (MOA) and monitors dual credit programs with regional high schools in Arizona
  • Oversees, supervises, and monitors several academic support services, such as Dual Credit, ABE/GED, K-12 Outreach, & Land Grant Programs
  • Assists in the development, maintenance, and execution of the department's communication plan to prospective and admitted students.
  • Assists with the supervision of the daily operations of the University
  • Ensures University is meeting enrollment goals for assigned target recruitment
  • Represents and travels on behalf of the University for recruitment and other University-related
  • Develops and maintains close working relationships with key high school
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of the admissions office's recruitment and marketing plan with the purpose of promoting the University's visibility and general recruitment
  • Assists with the evaluation and execution of admission decisions on the applicants
  • Monitors the quality of Instructional programs and related services
  • Assists with full compliance with regulations and requirements of the accrediting Commission - Higher Learning Commission (HLC).
  • Achieves financial objectives by adhering to and administering annual operational and capital equipment budgets, presenting and justifying budget recommendations to appropriate personnel.
  • Ensures the fair administration of the University's published policies
  • Maintain a safe and high-quality working and learning environment, including the physical
  • In cooperation with campus leadership, ensures adherence by students to policies and procedures and addresses student complaints
  • Participates in new student orientation, program advisory meetings, student appreciation events
  • Establishes, implements, and communicates goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.
  • Provides planning and operations assistance to executive management of the University through active participation and leadership on task forces, committees, and councils.
  • Develops and presents reports and recommendations for a variety of programs, and projects, and integrates the functions of the division in a manner that is responsive to student needs, the campus, and the community.
  • Keeps leadership and other departments informed of the status of department activities by attending meetings and submitting reports.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by conducting research, attending seminars, educational workshops, classes, and conferences; reviewing professional publications; establishing networks; participating in professional societies; conferring with representatives of contracting agencies and related organizations.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Dean of Undergraduates Studies.

SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Hosts regular faculty and staff meetings to ensure communication among personnel regarding departmental activities.
  • Supervises and manages personnel which include hiring, firing, performance evaluation, training, work allocation, and problem resolution.
  • Oversees the daily operations of faculty and support staff.
  • Preparing and maintaining departmental budgets and oversee compliance throughout fiscal year; time keeping and approval.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ph.D./Ed.D. in Education, Administration, or related field.
  • Three years work experience as a department chair, dean, director, or similar position with budgetary and management authority in higher education.
  • Three years in a management or supervisory capacity.
  • Three years teaching experience in a University setting.
  • Three years working with American Indian University students.
  • Valid and clean state driver's license.
  • Must be able to pass background check, with NO prior convictions of any felonies and no history of child abuse and/or neglect.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ph.D./Ed.D. in Education, Administration, or related field.
  • Five years of work experience as a department chair, dean, director, or similar position with budgetary and management authority in higher education.
  • Five years in a management or supervisory capacity.
  • Five years of teaching experience in a University setting.
  • Five years working with American Indian University students.
  • Valid and clean state driver's license.
  • Must be able to pass the background check, with NO prior convictions of any felonies and no history of child abuse and/or neglect.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, county, and local laws, regulations, and requirements.
  • Knowledge of higher education accreditation processes and
  • Knowledge of Navajo Tech University policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of higher education accreditation processes and issues.
  • Knowledge of dual credit programming, institutional data assessment application and usage, and higher education library usage.
  • Skill in operating various word-processing, spreadsheets, and database software programs in a Windows environment.
  • Management and organizational skills, including a willingness to explore new paradigms to improve the quality of teaching and
  • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Skill in providing leadership to, supervising, training, and evaluating assigned staff.
  • Ability to plan, assess, and evaluate programs.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and meet strict timelines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the Navajo and English language.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently sits, stand, walk, bend, stoop, and squat.
  • Use hands for the dexterity of motion and repetitive movement of both hands.
  • Have normal auditory, and visual acuity, and verbal communications skills.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and carry up to 15 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work is typically performed within an office with normal noise levels.
  • Tight time constraints and multiple demands are common.
  • Travel is required.
  • Evening and/or weekend work may be required. Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.
