Position Focus:

The Associate Director plans and executes a variety of operational, administrative, and curricular initiatives of Academic Affairs and Student Life (AASL). Provides strategic input and management for key elements of student academic services. Manages delivery of high-quality support service to ensure smooth operation of the office.

Further, the Associate director will oversee coordination between academic and student life services to ensure collaboration with programming. Manage the planning and scheduling of the department’s major events, meetings, and sessions in advance. Coordinate with Registrar about academic calendar. Share and coordinate this calendar with relevant departments around the school. Coordinate communications for AASL including electronic communications, departmental pages, and presence, learning management systems, portal, digital screens, and other electronic platforms. Manage the planning of SOM’s Orientation and ongoing development of Orientation programming and onboarding incoming students, including pre-Orientation onboarding for incoming students. Assist with programming, initiatives, and projects related to the Global Studies Requirement, particularly the International Experience trips. Serve as point of contact for students in the Healthcare Management Program and SOM joint degree programs. Provide academic counseling to students, hold office hours, and share responsibility for Academic Affairs inbox. Coordinate academic resources and participate in outreach to students with academic outcomes of concern. Act as a resource for students and responsible for resolving student concerns related to the curricula, course auction, academic calendar and all other academics related questions. Address academic concerns with students or triage and refer to senior staff for additional support. Manage Title IX Working Group programming and provide logistical oversight. Provide support in all AASL department events as necessary and any other projects as needed, which includes Commencement and all other AASL major events.

This position will be on-site during the introductory period, then move to hybrid.

Essential Duties

1. Manages and leads research on various federal rules and regulations as well as University policies and procedures to resolve problems and determine the best course of action for the functional area. 2. Recommends course of action to higher authority for the handling and disposition of problems related to the functional area. 3. Counsels faculty, students and staff on issues related to administrative operations of the University function and areas of concern for the function. 4. Manages statistical and analytical information regarding office activities and areas of operational and administrative concern for the function. 5. Leads in long-range planning for the office activities of a specific functional area. 6. Interprets and administers various University and federal policies and regulations. 7. Disseminates accurate and up-to-date information regarding areas of concern. 8. Formulates and establishes policies regarding area’s function. 9. Manages a staff of exempt and non-exempt employees. 10. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Minimum requirement of Bachelor’s Degree in related field and three years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Excellent computer skills including Microsoft products: Word, Excel, Access, Outlook Calendar, PowerPoint or equivalent.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Superior interpersonal skills to interact effectively and represent the school well with students, faculty, and administrators. Proven organizational skills, including the ability to organize and manage multiple projects and processes simultaneously.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Superior demonstrated written and oral communication skills. Ability to craft and articulate messages for various audiences. Writing sample required at interview.

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Positive and can-do attitude that supports the mission of the school. Ability to work successfully in a fast-paced and changing environment. Excellent attendance record.
