Position Summary Information

Minimum Qualifications
  • A minimum of a JD or a Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Rehabilitation Counseling, Law, or a related field.
  • Experience working in the area of law, civil rights, human resources or other related fields.
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in investigating reports or complaints of discrimination, harassment, or related concerns and dispute resolution processes, including preparation of investigative reports and making determinations of policy violations.
  • A minimum of 2 years supervising professional, full-time staff.
  • Demonstrated leadership of civil rights compliance and the ability to effect institutional change.
  • Demonstrated leadership with organizational, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines, as well as being a collaborative teammate.
  • Excellent skills in critical analysis, problem-solving, and communication.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Emotional intelligence and professionalism are required to manage the diverse demands of the position, navigate conflict, resolve problems, make effective decisions, and have excellent time management.

Preferred Qualifications
  • A minimum of two years experience working within an institution of higher education.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex legal documents to evaluate their impact on policy, procedures, and practice.
  • Experience as a Title IX Coordinator or Deputy Coordinator; prior completion of Title IX training by a nationally recognized entity focused on Title IX.
  • Experience initiating, planning, implementing, and evaluating programs and services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Associate Director of Equal Opportunity is a highly visible member of the university community who interacts across divisional lines and works collaboratively with many segments of the university. The Associate Director of EO service as the Senior Deputy Title IX Coordinator and & Deputy Equal Opportunity Officer.
  • Oversees all reports and complaints of alleged discrimination and harassment based on protected class as it relates to jurisdiction determinations, procedures for initial outreach to complainants and reporting parties, resolution options to parties, conducting interviews, and determining appropriate resolutions.
  • Assist the Executive Director of Access & Equity to develop and maintain the University’s Affirmative Action/Equal Employment Opportunity Plan.
  • Oversees the coordination of training and educational outreach to assure compliance with applicable policies, procedures, processes, best practices, and training in compliance with anti-discrimination or harassment legislation and regulations, including but not limited to Title VII, Title IX, VAWA, the Americans with Disabilities Act, etc.
  • Oversees the day-to-day compliance related responsibilities of Equal Opportunity for the institution and its lab schools.
  • Provides oversight of interactive process and evaluation of requests for religious or pregnancy accommodations
  • Oversees Equal Opportunity committees and represents the interests of Equal Opportunity to other campus constituents.

    Supervision
  • Serve as the principal planning coordinator for University programs, policies, and procedures related to civil rights compliance.
  • Provides departmental leadership, strategic direction and supervision to the staff of the Equal Opportunity unit within the Office of Access & Equity.
