Why Rensselaer?
Our dynamic global community of changemakers includes some of the world’s leading researchers, students, alumni, and faculty who ask the important questions and devise the scientific and technological innovations that make the world a better place for all of humanity. Nestled on a beautiful 275-acre campus in upstate NY, Rensselaer is home to five schools, 32 research centers, three makerspaces, an observatory, and one of the world’s fastest supercomputers.
Athletics play a key role in the student experience at Rensselaer. Over 80% of our students take part in intramurals, club sports, or intercollegiate programs. Since 1883, Rensselaer has built a legacy of achievement in athletics, led by student-athletes who excel both on and off the field. “The Engineers” represent Rensselaer in 23 intercollegiate sports, which include a Division I women’s ice hockey team, Division 1 men’s ice hockey team, and 21 Division III teams. Our athletes compete in leagues that include many of the nation’s top universities. Students can choose from 12 men’s sports or 11 women’s sports. Our athletics staff guide students in a positive culture as professional educators, mentors, volunteers, and teammates.
