POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Association Fleet Superintendent, the Association Bus Driver is responsible for supporting transportation needs across the entirety of the YMCA of the Triangle association to ensure safe and quality service delivery. This position will work collaboratively with other members of the Transportation Department to support the coordination of bus routes, route departure and arrival times, and designated hub stops for community-based programs. In addition, the Association Bus Driver will assist with onboarding of new bus drivers and provide ongoing support for driver in-service training.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Maintains collaborative relationships with other transportation department team members and branch leadership staff across the Association.
  • Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.
  • Maintains Class B Commercial Driver’s License with “P” and air brake endorsements and all additional DOT requirements in order to drive a YMCA bus.
  • Responsible for compliance with YMCA standard operating procedures and safety guidelines related to all drivers and vehicle use.
  • Responsible for daily operation of association vehicles, including but not limited to, driving regularly scheduled routes, filling in driver shifts for morning, afternoon, and weekend programming, shifting of vehicles for repair/maintenance, and/or other unplanned transportation needs.
  • In coordination with other transportation department staff, ensures compliance with general cleaning, fueling, and vehicle readiness program for association vehicle fleet.
  • Assists with onboarding new drivers and supports ongoing in-service training of a diverse staff team across multiple dimensions of diversity.
  • Provides feedback and support to the Association Fleet Superintendent regarding the development, coordination, and review of bus routes and general branch transportation needs.
  • Provides support for regular preventative maintenance, reporting of repair needs/vehicle concerns, and assists with coordination of vehicle repairs to minimize out of service time for association vehicles.
  • Promote and support successful implementation and engagement of fleet management software.
  • In coordination with Association Fleet Superintendent, participates and supports the Y’s transportation in-service training to promote successful implementation and engagement.
  • Maintains healthy collaborative working relationships with all transportation and program staff.
  • Other duties and responsibilities assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Class B Commercial Driver’s License with both Passenger and Air Brakes endorsements.
  • Minimum of two-years’ experience driving a bus.
  • Must successfully meet YMCA of the Triangle Criminal Background Check, Motor Vehicle Record, and driver screening requirements.
  • Safety certifications required: Basic Life Support, First Aid. *Must be met within first 30 days of hire.
  • Desire and ability to work with children.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse group of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Multi-lingual desired but not required.
