The Opportunity

The Business Analyst will be an integral part of the BOLI/COLI Quantitative Consulting team, utilizing product and system knowledge to support the design and development of Institutional Insurance products from an illustration system implementation on Forge and LMI. The Forge COLI Illustration System and LMI application are used by the Institutional Insurance Business and Sales teams to run illustrations for pre-sale and in-force customers for Bank Owned Life Insurance (BOLI), Corporate Owned Life Insurance (COLI) and private placement variable life products.

The Team

The Institutional Insurance Quantitative Team is responsible for illustration systems, complex reporting, supporting administrative system design, commission troubleshooting, inforce support, automation, risk management, and other technical aspects of MassMutual’s COLI and BOLI product lines. We often work independently within our unit, collaborating with other units to solve problems. We’re motivated by simplifying workflows and enjoy “getting the job done”. Even with a few recent retirements, we remain well seasoned and long-term experts on a unique and profitable product line with market leading sales.

The Impact:

  • Develop and maintain mature LMI application on dedicated Linux server partnering closely with the application developers to implement product, system and interface changes and enhancements, focusing on quality control and process improvement. Check-out and build source code using standard Unix tools (GIT, VIM, Sed, etc.). Assist with well documented code for product changes/enhancements and commit to the proprietary product repository. Perform system and regression testing. Analyze and document system test results with attention to detail and accuracy. Responsible for the preparation and coordination/communication of monthly LMI system release candidates to internal and external users.
  • Participate on projects to design and implement continuous improvements of illustration systems functionality and automated inforce feeds. Analyze and interpret product specification or system change/enhancement to develop test requirements, system tests and expected results.
  • Collaborate with MassMutual colleagues in Actuarial, Compliance, Legal, and IT, to ensure all Institutional Insurance illustrations remain timely, accurate, and usable. Work in partnership with business operations, sales, IT, compliance and legal to identity opportunities to advance illustration functionality. Ensure registered variable product illustrations comply with SEC Rule 38a-1. Prepare documentation as required of MassMutual’s 38a-1 program.
  • Provide technical guidance and knowledge for new business and inforce illustrations on MassMutual’s LMI, iPipeline’s Forge system, and VIS. Provide support for Forge enhancements and modifications.
  • Research and resolve user concerns, performing analysis to determine correct process/calculations, identifying any gaps or differences compared to current process/calculation.

The Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 3+ years of experience with Universal Life Insurance product designs and illustrations.
  • 1+ year of experience translating business requirements into technical documents.

The Ideal Qualifications

  • Experience with COLI and BOLI Life Insurance.
  • Familiarity with Linux servers and Unix tools.
  • Knowledge of graphical user interfaces.
  • Experience with C++ programming. Strong documentation and communication skills.
