Summary
The Business Relationship Manager (BRM), as part of the IT Applications Organization, is one of the primary points of contacts for their assigned business domain. The BRM is accountable for the intake and prioritization of new capability requests. As the primary conduit for demand intake in the assigned business domain, a BRM collaborates closely with appropriate stakeholders to distill business / organizational priorities and requirements so they can go through the right processes and be incorporated within the overall IT plans.
The primary responsibility of the Business Relationship Manager is to partner with Business Functional domain, IT leaders in the Applications, Architecture, IT Security, and Infrastructure organizations to create an actionable demand portfolio for the work that IT teams will deliver. The BRM must navigate cross-functionally with leadership in pursuit of demand management, resource alignment, estimations, planning and solutions delivery. The incumbent will work with the PMO Organization and represent business needs to the IT organization for realization of business value. In addition, the BRM will provide thought leadership on industry trends and innovation opportunities for their respective business domains that need to be incorporated into future capabilities.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Understands and contributes to the business unit strategy and translates business strategy in an aligned IT strategy and portfolio of programs, projects, and applications
  • Partners with Business Functions, Architecture, Security, Applications, Infrastructure to determine feasibility of incoming business requests and to formulate financial and resource estimates
  • Close collaboration with other parts of the Business, IT departments, and peers in the Applications Services Org who own the relationship with service providers partners. Work closely and collaboratively with service providers to ensure adequate and timely delivery of work in the demand, planning and estimation areas and are in line with agreed service levels
  • Facilitates business capability definition and roadmap planning and prioritization exercises, including development of capability documentation as appropriate working closely with the PMO organization
  • Solicits feedback from the business functions, while working closely with Operations and Delivery teams to identify continuous improvement opportunities to increase the business value within IT initiatives and IT services
  • Constant awareness of evolving regulatory requirements, working closely with NiSource regulatory org, and influence the IT stakeholders and vendors in addressing these evolutions in the most efficient way
  • Explores, maintains, and leverages strategic partnership with academia research communities, industry research institutions, current and leading providers, and think tanks
  • Effectively govern and manage demand and planning estimates for relevant domains
  • Regularly integrate with and share lessons learned and best practices with other BRMs and IT Leads
  • Proactively identify areas of opportunity to apply existing technologies for new business demand, process improvement, and cost efficiencies
  • Contributes to continuous improvement initiatives
Required Qualifications for Position
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems Management and/or Business Administration strongly preferred
  • Strong business acumen and 7 to 10 years of business/technology management experience collaborating with leaders to ensure IT Services are aligned to meet their objectives
  • Ability to analyze topics and be able to present visually and conversationally problems, resolution options and facts to enable leadership decision making
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously and at times competing deliverables
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment with tight timelines
  • Experience navigating a matrixed organization. Proven ability to work across departments collaboratively to resolve issues, drive projects to closure, achieve desired results and successfully implement change
  • Strong executive presence and skills in the areas of strategic thinking, facilitation, collaboration, negotiation, influence, process and capability modeling, value-stream mapping, problem solving, innovation, stakeholder management, and project management
  • Knowledge base of IT industry disciplines, technology, applications and IT infrastructure components, trends, and leading practices
  • Excellent oral, written, organizational, and listening, communication skills
  • Strong financial acumen and experience developing business cases
  • Proven ability to lead, coach and develop others
  • Willing to travel to NiSource business unit or Service Provider locations, as needed
Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position
  • Certifications such as: BRMP, CBAP, PMP, Six Sigma, ITIL preferred
  • Knowledge of energy and electric / gas utility industry
