The American Red Cross is currently seeking a Temporary Long-term Recovery Caseworker for Madisonville, KY.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

The December 2021 Long-term Recovery Caseworker reports to the Long-term Recovery Casework Manager and is responsible for delivery of all client service activities, including those related to the Expanded Recovery Assistance program. The Caseworker is responsible for excellent casework service delivery, prioritizing services to the most vulnerable households. The Caseworker will coordinate closely with the Long-Term Recovery team, National Headquarters volunteers and employees, as well as partner agencies providing Disaster Case Management and social services to the impacted areas.

This is a remote position based in, or near, Madisonville, KY. Frequent travel in the areas impacted by the December 2021 Tornadoes for meetings and other activities will be required.

This is a temporary position expected to last 8 months from date of hire with the opportunity to extend based on business need. No benefits.

WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE GOOD:
  • Facilitate and support the development and implementation of strategies, tools, plans, processes, and procedures within the Expanded Recovery Assistance program.
  • Receive referrals f rom p artner agencies and reach out to impacted households . Interview client and family to understand recovery plan and ongoing recovery needs, provide accurate and appropriate casework documentation.
  • Provide assistance to households with obtaining appropriate documentation required for eligibility in the Expanded Recovery Assistance program. Coordinate with social service agencies and Disaster Case Management providers to confirm eligibility criteria.
  • Advocate on behalf of client to help obtain available additional resources to meet client's needs.
  • Maintain accurate service records and statistics, assist with generating reports in accordance with organizational standards.
  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert (SME) to internal and external stakeholders.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree required .
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience required . Management experience not required .
  • Skills and Abilities: E xcellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to collect and research data, identify and resolve problems in a timely manner . Ability to manage difficult or emotional client situations appropriately. Respond to requests for service and develop alternative solutions as needed. Individuals must be customer oriented, organized, and focused on solutions. Exhibit sound and accurate judgment. Work with integrity and ethics. Maintain confidentiality. Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of community resources and applicability. Intermediate level proficiency with MS Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Ability to utilize a variety of technical systems with ease. Ability to work independently with limited supervision . Ability to assess client need and provide services equitably and consistently. Spanish proficiency strongly desired.
  • Travel: Frequent local travel required. Must have a valid driver's license.

The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. The work environment will consist of moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phones and printers, light traffic). The employee must have the ability to work in a small cubicle and have the ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time.
