Job Summary:


The WI Union cash office consists of the cash office supervisor and student staff. This staff processes daily cash deposits for our units utilizing cash depository machines. The office monitors cash use, orders currency and performs daily balancing of currency and coin.

This position is responsible for managing the cash needs for WI Union food service and markets located throughout campus, including the oversight of two cash offices. This supervisor tracks and monitors the movement of cash between the cash office and our units receiving cash sales which entails coordination between unit supervisors and our courier service. The ideal candidate must be able to work independently, possess strong communication skills, and problem solving skills. Occasional weekends may be required, due to business needs.


Responsibilities:

Primarily reviews, approves, and advises on a variety of advanced financial transactions. May prepare some financial transactions and reconciles transactions. Recommends controls and process improvements, troubleshoots advanced financial errors. Maintains financial records, provides administrative processing support, and provides customer service for staff and customers in an assigned program area to support program financial management.
  • 15% Audits, monitors, organizes, and updates fiscal records, reports, and affiliated materials
  • 15% Creates general reporting for transactions
  • 15% Audits or processes advanced transactions and assigns funding codes in accordance with established rules, regulations, and policies
  • 15% Audits or reconciles original purchase documents with payments
  • 15% Drafts communications and advanced reports and maintains organization of varied records to provide administrative support within a specified work unit
  • 5% Reviews transaction processing internal controls and recommends policies and procedures
  • 15% Provides guidance and direction to the office and student staff
  • 5% Provide backup support all phases of payroll as necessary


Tasks:

  • Resolve discrepancies in counting cash.
  • Monitor safes to ensure cash balances are correct.

Qualifications:


Required:
  • Experience in cash handling, balancing currency and coin
  • Experience with computer software, such as Microsoft office
  • Excellent organization and record keeping skills

Preferred:
  • Experience in bank telling

Work Schedule:


Monday - Friday
8:00am - 4:30pm
Occasional weekends due to business needs.

The Wisconsin Union operates from several buildings on the UW-Madison campus including Memorial Union, Union South, Fluno Center, Pyle Center, University Club, Red Gym, and the Student Activity Center. The Wisconsin Union is a financially self-supporting division of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Financial support for the organization is provided by income earned by over thirty food service units and a variety of nonfood units such as games, guest rooms, space rentals and campus vending. Substantial support is also provided by student fees. The total annual organizational budget is approximately $60 million dollars.
