Overview:
Responsible for maximizing value delivery and minimizing risk to MPC across a portfolio of goods and services. Responsible for ensuring Marathon selects the most appropriate goods and/or services based on total cost of ownership (TCO). Support and execute category plans, strategic sourcing initiatives, and contract negotiations to leverage spend while creating value for Marathon. Conduct spend and market intelligence analysis to identify key opportunities that deliver value, optimize supplier mix and mitigate risk to the business. Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts and Stakeholders across the enterprise to understand business needs and requirements. Develop and monitor KPIs for measuring key Supplier performance. Coordinate with site buyers to ensure the team is in alignment with sourcing strategies.

Responsibilities:
  • Support the development and execution of category strategies in close alignment with the Category Management Team.
  • Support the development and implementation of regional/local sourcing strategies in close alignment with Subject Matter Experts and Stakeholders at the Refining & Midstream assets.
  • In collaboration with the Business Units, support strategic sourcing initiatives led by the Category Management team.
  • With the support of the Category Manager, participate in the preparation and negotiation of agreements with key Suppliers for commercial pricing, risk management and periodically terms and conditions.
  • Work closely with market intelligence partners to develop dashboards of market trends, benchmark studies, should-cost analysis, spend analytics, and make recommendations to the Category Management team in alignment with business objectives and category strategies. As required, create monthly category market intelligence documents for distribution to Stakeholders.
  • Perform root cause and sensitivity analysis related to labor challenges, supply disruptions, or other market forces.
  • On-board new Suppliers in close collaboration with the Category Manager and coordinate supplier evaluations.
  • Participate in sourcing initiatives, as needed, in SAP Ariba. Monitor performance in SAP for assigned categories. Resolve commercial concerns with Suppliers in accordance with our terms and conditions. Confirm delivery with Suppliers, monitor and track Supplier performance in accordance with contractual requirements.
  • Seek and identify opportunities for value creation (cost savings, cost avoidance, revenue enhancement) and risk reduction within assigned categories.
  • With the support of the Category Manager, develop and maintain strategic partnerships with key Suppliers to ensure service, commercial terms, and optimal leverage.
  • Support the Annual Business Review process and coordinate meetings as required.
  • Collaborate with the Category Manager to develop and maintain ongoing sourcing strategies & minimize supply and labor risks.
  • Develop and track KPIs for measuring performance for key Suppliers.
  • Utilize Supply Chain tools, templates, and systems as prescribed by the Supply Chain Function.
Education and Experience
  • Minimum undergraduate degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Marketing, Engineering, Business, Data Science, or similar discipline required.
  • Minimum 4 years of related experience required.
  • Experience with Industrial Gases, Chemicals, Rental Equipment, Service-related categories, Materials-related categories, Logistics, Engineering, Safety & Environmental, and/or Project Management are considered a plus.
  • Experience in Refining and/or Midstream Oil/Gas is highly preferred.
Additional Skillsets:
  • Contracting skills with in-depth understanding of the various Contract Terms and Conditions.
  • Communication and negotiation skills with the capability to meet targets, manage concessions and deliver results.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data for use in decision-making and actions in support of business strategy.
  • SAP, Ariba, Tableau, PowerBi, Microsoft Office Suite.
