CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant
The Seabrook of Hilton Head, Inc.

Summary Responsible for performing a variety of nursing duties, being knowledgeable of Resident Rights and ensuring an atmosphere which allows for the privacy, dignity and well-being of all Residents in a safe, secure environment, insuring compliance with all operating policies and procedures and South Carolina Department of Health regulations and Federal Health Care Administration regulations.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide basic patient care under direction of nursing staff. Perform duties such as feed, bathe, dress, groom, or move patients, or change linens. May transfer or transport patients.

Other Duties:

  • Answer Resident’s call bells promptly and courteously.
  • Answer Nurses’s Desk telephones when necessary
  • Receive reports and assignments at designated times and places
  • Assist physicians, nurses and therapists in providing examinations and treatments, maintaining comfort and providing emotional support.
  • Attend resident team conferences, in-service programs and staff meetings as designated. Be attentive and actively participate.
  • Complete Certified Nursing Assistant records documenting care provided or other information in keeping with departmental policies.
  • Perform various tasks assigned by the Charge Nurse including vital signs, resident’s weights, applying creams/ointments, collecting specimens, etc.
  • Apply ice packs as assigned.
  • Check casts regularly for cleanliness, odors, condition and comfort. Report any changes in the cast or skin areas around the cast.
  • Maintain isolation techniques when specified.
  • Encourage and assist residents to walk ad lib, safely, with or without mechanical devices (cane, crutches, walker, etc.) to maintain or increase range of motion and mobility.
  • Position and support residents in bed, lounger, stretcher, etc. safely, with appropriate mechanical devices to maintain good body alignment, comfort, good circulation and healthy skin.
  • Observe Residents for changes in condition or behavior and promptly reports these changes to appropriate licensed nursing personnel.
  • Perform personal services for residents, such as reading, writing letters, assisting with the operation of TV’s, radios, phones, etc.
  • Promote and stimulate social interaction with and between the residents.
  • Provide physical and emotional support to the resident, family and significant others when death is eminent with privacy, dignity, comfort and compassion.
  • Prepare expired residents for the funeral director, maintaining dignity, respect and privacy.
  • Care for linens, keeping clean and soiled linens separate.

Education and/or Experience



High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Licensed as a Certified Nursing Assistant in the State of South Carolina, or eligible to take and pass the exam within four months. Completion of an approved training course to prepare for the state exam before hire. All out of state C N A’s must apply for reciprocal license from the State of South Carolina through ASI and show proof of same before hire.

Physical Demands T While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell. Is subject to lifting, transporting and supporting Residents using proper body mechanics. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. May occasionally use mechanical lifts. Must be constantly alert for Resident safety. The employee may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens or infectious disease.
