Child Support Supervisor I
Job description
Winona County Community Services is accepting applications for a full time Child Support Supervisor I position.
Under general direction of the Health and Human Services Director, this position supervises and directs the child support unit. Develops, interprets, and assesses policies, responsible for the maintenance of standards within the child support unit towards the agencies total objectives; and performs related work as assigned. Work is performed in an office setting.
Supervises and assigns work to child support unit.
Analyzes, evaluates, and suggests modifications in procedures involved in the management of the child support unit. Updates staff in methods of investigations, negotiations, agency policy and state and federal laws pertaining to collections/child support.
Reviews case records to see that agency policies and regulations are adhered to and proper procedures are being followed.
Assists in recruitment and selection of personnel for unit. Trains new employees.
Plans and implements program changes as mandated by the legislature and the Minnesota Department of Human Services.
Completes work plans and evaluates staff performance and recommends appropriate action.
Interviews clients when special circumstances arise, listens to grievances, and recommends appropriate action to the Director.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with the income maintenance staff, County Attorney’s office, child support magistrates, police and sheriff’s offices, local businesses, other agencies and vendors.
Reviews evidence in cases prior to the County Attorney and confers with County Attorney staff, supervisors from other units and outside agencies on methods for resolving problematic cases. May attend appeal and court hearings.
Assists in facilitating referrals to Health and Human services.
May manage a small child support and/or collections caseload.
Coordinates the compilation of collection data for quarterly federal, state and local reports and compiles statistics and analyzes unit data in order to monitor trends relating to program performance, services, resource availability and staffing needs.
Attends appropriate meetings, training sessions and may be required to present material to the Board.
Any other duties as assigned
- A bachelor's degree in criminal justice, paralegal, business administration, public administration or closely related field and two (2) years of experience as a Child Support Officer/Collections Officer or equivalent.
or
- A bachelor's degree in criminal justice, paralegal, business administration, public administration or closely related field and one (1) year of experience as a lead worker to other child support staff, e.g., at the level of Child Support Lead Worker.
or
- Four (4) years of experience as a Child Support Officer or related work involving collection of child support
or
- Four (4) years of experience in collection work in a loan company, bank or credit union, one (1)year of which includes supervisory responsibility.
The examination will consist of a rating of training and experience based on the information you provide in your application and your responses to the supplemental questions included in the application process. Any experience claimed in your answers to the supplemental questions but not included in the Work Experience section of you application will not be credited.
