GENERAL SUMMARY:
Reports to a Lead Clinical Laboratory Scientist/Supervisor (or Charge/assigned Clinical Laboratory Scientist III or IV. Performs a variety of both routine and complex clinical laboratory tests in accordance with established standards and procedures. These require a professional level of knowledge to properly execute and analyze results, especially where results are abnormal or atypical. Supports the needs of the laboratory including both pre-analytical and analytical areas as assigned. Provides training and education to both new hires, current colleagues, students, residents/fellows, and others assigned in the laboratory. Specific duties may vary according to laboratory and shift assigned.

EDUCATION:
BS degree in Medical Technology or Clinical Lab Science

OR

Work requires formal educational background in chemistry, hematology, immunohematology and microbiology normally acquired through completion of a two or four year post-secondary school program in clinical laboratory technology/medical technology and/or equivalent education and training in microbiology, chemistry, hematology, immunohematology, or related field qualifying them to sit for categorical or MT certification. Certification in Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Science, MLT/MT/MLS, ASCP or a nationally recognized professional organization is preferred.

EXPERIENCE:
Clinical Laboratory Science/Medical Technology internship or (one year) equivalent clinical lab experience or course work specific to the discipline. This role is intended for individuals with less than 2 years of experience and for all BS/MT and equivalent degree candidates without the equivalent certification/registration (but with eligibility to sit for certification exam).
