Occupational Summary


This role will perform a variety of research, data, and clerical duties of a routine and technical nature, with an emphasis on data collection and data entry to support the conduct of clinical research for the Duke Perinatal Research Center. Most studies will be of an Obstetrics focus. Participate in day-to-day operations related to the collection, compilation, and documentation of clinical research data. The Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinical Research Unit [CRU] oversees the conduct of research.
The ideal candidate can easily use computing software and web-based applications (e.g., Microsoft Office products and internet browsers) and will have previous experience in data entry/management.


Operations:

Maintains participant level documentation for all studies, including those that are complex in nature (e.g., procedural and interventional studies) and/or require access to the Duke EHR. May train or oversee others. Follows SOPs. Assists with maintenance of study level documentation. Participates in study team meetings.

Data:

Enters and collects data. Develops data entry or collection SOPs or tools. May provide oversight or training to study team members collecting or entering data. Independently corrects and documents incomplete, inaccurate or missing data for non-complex studies. Follows SOPs for quality assurance. Runs summaries and reports on existing data. Follows required processes, policies, and systems to ensure data security and provenance. In addition, recognizes and reports security of physical and electronic data vulnerabilities. Maps a protocol's data flow plan including data capture, storage, transfer, management, quality, and preparation for analysis (may include data from EDCs, EHR, mobile apps, etc.). May train or oversee others. Learns and uses new technology when required.


Study and Site Management:

Records basic protocol information in clinical research management system. Follows protocol-specific systems and process flows.

Leadership:

Maintains Duke and project specific training requirements. Keeps current with research updates by attending key external departmental meetings (i.e. Research Wednesday, RPN, additional training, etc.). Navigates processes and people involved in Duke clinical research, demonstrates the organizational awareness, and has the interpersonal skills necessary to get work done efficiently. Demonstrates resilience and is adaptive to change. Uses advanced subject matter expertise in the therapeutic area or clinical research to solve problems. Communicates effectively with others, regardless of reporting relationship, to accomplish shared work objectives.


Minimum Qualifications


Education

Work requires an Associate's degree.


Experience


One year of relevant experience. A Bachelor's degree may substitute for required experience.
