The Department of Pharmacy, consistent with the mission of Johns Hopkins Medicine, places a priority on teaching, research and patient care. At Johns Hopkins Hospital, the department is responsible for providing acute care pharmacy services for a diverse population of medical and surgical patients, with additional services provided within the Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center and affiliated clinics. Within the department, there are 45 acute care and primary care clinical pharmacy specialists as well as 31 general and specialized pharmacy residents.

Working collaboratively with providers, nurses, and other health care providers, the clinical pharmacy specialist in Substance Use Disorders (SUD) provides comprehensive medication management services for the SUD consult team and the Acute Pain Service. They will also help to expand ambulatory SUD services. Responsibilities for the position include: medication therapy management, interdisciplinary decision making, care coordination, education, policy/procedure development, and research activities. They will provide drug information and education to patients, students, residents, pharmacists, and other health care practitioners. They work to promote the use of established medication use policies and assists with the identification and development of new Pharmacy Department and Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee policies

Graduation from an accredited College of Pharmacy resulting in Pharm D. or BS degree. Completion of an ASHP accredited PGY1 residency program or equivalent experience is required. Completion of an ASHP accredited PGY2 residency program in Pain & Palliative Care is preferred. Board Certification through the Board of Pharmacy Specialties or a certification deemed appropriate for the practitioner's practice setting by Division Director is required within 2 years of start date.
