The Orange County Rescue Mission and Restoration Roasters are seeking an experienced Coffee Roaster to fill a part time vacancy. This position serves as the in-house coffee expert and resource for managing the roasting process and schedule. The Coffee Roaster will work with the Operations Team in roasting experiments, improving inventory accuracy and forecasting, along with consistent roasting profiles. This position will manage inventory levels for both green and roasted coffee. The Coffee Roaster will also train staff, volunteers and mentor students on production operations, including roasting, stamping, head sealing, weighing and shipping. The current roasting schedule is Tuesday and Thursday from 8am-5pm, but please let us know your availability when you apply.

Job Duties:

  • Production and Management: quality of coffee and service (includes coffee sampling, coffee profiling, coffee cupping protocol, inventory management, production roasting, and roaster maintenance)
  • Training: teaching new roasters (includes onboarding, production theories, and general coffee education)
  • External Partnerships: develop partnership relationships (includes church relations, wholesale partners, and outside volunteers)

Minimum Requirements :

  • A personal relationship with Jesus, good working knowledge of the Bible, signed acknowledgment of the Statement of Faith.
  • High School Diploma (or equivalent education) and a minimum of 2 years specialty coffee roasting experience.
  • Expert knowledge in the specialty coffee process from bean to brew.
  • Knowledge of basic roasting machine maintenance and cleaning.
  • Ability to physically lift 50lb bags of beans on a regular basis and maneuver in a tight work environment.
  • Be self-motivated, dependable and organized.
  • A professional, but friendly attitude with excellent communication skills (verbal and written) at all times with staff, volunteers and students.
  • Excellent training skills in order to teach/train students, volunteers and staff in the coffee process.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • The ability to act professionally and think promptly in an emergency or crisis situation.
  • Ability to recognize and maintain confidentiality of information as appropriate.
  • Maintain and have acceptable driving record with 2 or less points (as deemed by our Insurance Provider).
  • Regular timely attendance.
