Job description
The Communications Manager is a full-time, exempt employee of the Mount Vernon Country Club, reporting directly to the General Manager and will work in partnership with the Membership and Marketing Director and other senior management.
The Manager’s primary responsibility will be to lead the development and implementation of communications and marketing strategy and programs. The Manager will oversee the Club’s communications, marketing and social media presence, ensuring they represent the Club’s culture and brand. This position will be responsible for developing and implementing the short and long-term strategic brand development strategy while enhancing the Club brand internally and externally through the development and distribution of written, digital, and visual communications. The Manager is expected to share in the long-term strategic vision of the club and contribute to its overall growth from a tactical perspective in the day-to-day operations, and from a strategic, long-term planning perspective while yielding innovation for the club.
Requirements:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work directly with the General manager and membership and Marketing Director to define and implement the internal process and organizational structure around the development, review, and distribution of internal and external promotional materials.
- Develop, implement, and protect the Mount Vernon Country Club’s brand strategy in accordance with the mission, vision, and values set forth by the Club.
- Brand development and ensure consistency in message, image, training, and social media presence. This employee will play a vital role in the development of the in-house new employee training to maintain a high level of hospitality in line with the Mount Vernon Country Club’s brand and consistency in service.
- Lead marketing activities to promote the Mount Vernon Country Club brand and act as an ambassador within the community, through strategy and tactical execution, both externally and internally, to maintain acceptable membership levels and budget expectations.
- Responsible for the promotion of Club activities and special events by designing event flyers, signs, and promotional materials and circulating information to members. Works with department heads to maintain and update the website and social media content. Specific responsibilities include:
- Own and execute the internal communications calendar and club communications including member newsletters and emails.
- Establish and create print materials for all aspects of the club, such as new members and prospective member promotional pieces, menus, and in-house signage.
- Maintain and enhance the Mount Vernon Country Club Digital strategy to include public and private websites, and social media presence.
- Update and maintain accuracy of the calendar of events.
- Write, compose, or edit all Club newsletter articles: collect, organize, and submit all copy for distribution and production on a timely basis; proof content for corrections, responsible for the design.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with Department Heads, Committees, Board of Directors, and employees to implement a thorough and consistent strategy to best communicate Club life through all channels amplifying the Member Story
- Interact with the House Committee and Board of Directors to develop long-term communication and brand goals for the Club.
- Able to respond to calls after hours, on weekends, and on holidays.
- Responsible for attending member social events.

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or public relations or equivalent degree with 2-5
years’ experience in marketing, preferably in a Club setting.
- Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment and have a strong desire to develop systems and procedures while understanding the flexibility needed in a transition and building period.

- High energy, creative, outgoing personality
- Strong organization and planning skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Experience in developing and implementing effective marketing and communications strategies and programs.

- Must have a professional demeanor, a gracious attitude and a demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all departments, team members, current and prospective Members, and business partners.
- An evident passion for high-level customer service and hospitality is required.
- Proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office applications are required.
- Club Essentials, Jonas, Photoshop, video editing software or equivalent programs required.
- Experience with website development and maintenance is required.
- Must exhibit a “can-do” attitude to solve problems productively. Develop and propose solutions to the issues that occur. Anticipate the needs of others and react appropriately.
